Percussion Stuff!

March 15-April 1

Finishing the week. . .

Yippee! Spring Break is upon us. You will be happy to know that there is NO assignment over Spring Break. Please enjoy the days off and be ready to hit it for the final push when we return.

We have 2 more competitions coming up: MO Day of Percussion, where the students will spend the day attending clinics and performances, put on by the MO Percussive Arts Society and State Solo and Ensemble Festival. State is exactly like the contest we went to at Central, but the expectations for performance are higher. We will continue to review our pieces on Fridays in class. The students and I know that even though they performed very well, there are a few places that were not as polished as they should have been. We will wear our black and green again for State.

In April, we will begin preparing for the 2016 version of the Spirit of '76 Drum line. Wednesday nights we will have camps that will help us place everyone where they need to go. We plan to meet from 6:00-8:30 pm. Having the camps in April helps us avoid the craziness of May with performances, Honors evenings, graduations, etc.

Also in April is the Orchestra Pops concert. The Symphonic Band and Symphonic Orchestra come together for an evening of food and entertainment. This event is voluntary, although it will be upperclassmen chosen before underclassmen. Sometime soon, Mr. Simon will get me a folder of music and we will know how many percussionists he will need. We usually need 4-5 students to perform. They will rehearse on Friday night, April 15 and have a performance on Saturday, April 16. You can contact Mr. Simon for specifics on cost of attendance and food plates (cheese plate or fruit plate type stuff usually)

In Class

As I mentioned earlier, there is nothing new to learn over Spring Break. We will review Elysium top - E and Rockin' Rickie Rocket top - F when we return.

On Friday, April 1, I will be in Union MO judging Solo and Ensemble Festival. The class will rehearse/review their solo and ensemble songs. The substitute will have a class schedule for rehearsal.
