SET SAIL FOR SUCCESS - Open House - Track 4
Track 4: You are invited to Open House on Thursday, August 16th! Parent involvement is key in our children's academic success, so please plan on joining us.
What you can expect:
- This is a PARENTS/GUARDIANS ONLY event (YMCA childcare will be available for current OCE students only)
- Teachers will meet parents as well as provide an overview of grade level curriculum
- Learn how you can support your child and teacher this academic year
- Two sessions for your convenience
- Learn more about the OCE PTA at this special meeting
The schedule for open house will be as follows:
5:30 p.m. - 5:50 p.m. - BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Parent Meeting for 4th and 5th grade parents only
6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - Session 1 (in your child's classroom)
6:35 p.m. - 6:50 p.m. - PTA General Meeting (Multipurpose Room)
6:55 p.m. - 7:25 p.m. - Session 2 (in your child's classroom)

YOU MUST SIGN UP EVERY YEAR! If you were an approved volunteer last year, you must resubmit your form each school year.
Join the PTA
The PTA is a valuable asset to the school and your children’s education. The PTA, through its fundraisers, financially supports the school and staff allowing for better opportunities for your children’s academic experience. Money raised from the PTA brings technology and equipment, cultural programs, staff training, teacher grants, school supplies, and staff lunches/breakfasts to our school.

Shirts are 100% cotton and available in both Youth (sizes XS-L) and Adult (S-XXL) sizes. T-shirts are $10 each.

OCE Bus Updates
Go, Play, Save! - Track 1 & 2 Due August 10th
Restaurants, attractions, services...there are coupons for nearly everything on your to do list in the Go Play Save book! The cost is $30 per book. Checks should be made payable to OCE PTA or use this link to pay with a credit card. You can also forward that link to friends and family to help support our school.
Orders are due August 10 for Tracks 1 & 2 and August 22nd for Tracks 3 & 4.
If you are not purchasing your book, please send it back to the school ASAP.
Money from Home Reminder
Did you know that if you ordered your school supplies through SchoolKidz, your packet included some handy envelopes for exactly this? The envelopes include spaces for your child's name, teacher's name, and the purpose of the money, so if it's lost, it can be easily routed to the right place. The envelopes should have been sent home with your child.
SPOTLIGHT ON SPECIALS: SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Last week, the school counselors provided information on their overall services. This week, they wanted to share a little more about the classroom lessons your students will receive when they have counseling as a special. Contact our counselors directly with questions or for more information.
The school counselors will be facilitating classroom lessons in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade during the 1st quarter. All of our classroom lessons support Social Emotional Learning.
Social Emotional learning includes self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness, which includes empathy and social justice with an emphasis on developing ongoing positive culturally-responsive relationships across the school.
Kindergarten students will begin with the program Emotional Literacy where they will learn about the different emotions and how to manage these emotions. By using the stories of Howard B. Wigglebottom by Howard Binkow, our first grade students will learn appropriate behaviors in managing their feelings and social interactions with their peers. The second grade students will be learning about small and big problems and practice using skills that will be taught in the program “Kelso’s Choices”. Each student will receive a “Kelso’s” wheel (image above) showing 9 skills to use when solving problems. Students will also learn how they can seek out help from grownups especially for the big problems.
During the 2nd quarter, the school counselors will be facilitating lessons in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Stay tuned for more information regarding these lessons.
Landlubbers Running Club
The club meets every Tuesday from 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. after school beginning September 4th.

Last year's Garden Club made our courtyard into an oasis of plants, benches, and even art! If you would like to participate in the Garden Club, please fill out the Google Registration Link.
