Booking Time in the Library
- Check the online calendar to make sure that time that you want is available (this calendar will be shared with all staff so be sure to accept the invitation to look at it).
- Phone or email or visit one of the teacher librarians/library technician to discuss the date and period you want to book. We will put it in the booking binder and on the online calendar!
- Email or visit with a copy of your assignment before the date of your visit so we can find that resources that your students will need to do their best work.
That's it! You have the choice of booking the main space or the seminar room. We have 32 CPUs in the main space and 42 Chromebooks for use in the seminar room. Don't forget that the iPad cart and the Chromebook carts are also available to be booked online in the room booking system if you want to take the technology to your classroom!
We have already started taking bookings so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment and get the time and the space that you want. If you have booked a library period and you have to be away that day, no problem! Just let us know in advance and be sure we have your assignment so we can help your students stay on track.
Booking time in Room 228
1. Call or email the library with the dates and times that you need. We often book time for your class in the library as well during the same period in case all of your students will not be using the room at the same time.
2. Send us a copy of the assignment so we can be sure that you have everything you need in the room.
Easy peasy!
New Initiatives
- A New and Improved Makerspace - In the past, our Makerspace was on a cart. Thanks to the shuffling of some books we will now be having a permanent Makerspace corner that students can access. We will also be having mini lesson on how to use our new Cricut and sewing machines so that students can get creative and start making!
- The Human Library - On October 24th we will be hosting our first Human Library. Students will be invited to sign up and "check out" time with people to ask questions and to learn from members of our community. This should be a great event and we hope you will sign up with your classes.
- Going Paperless - We are trying to reduce our impact on the environment and have moved from using paper slips to track our print credits to online tracking. We are constantly looking for more ways to reduce paper in the library learning commons.
- Sora - For those of you who don't know, we have transitioned from OverDrive to the Sora App. It's the same online collection but it is much more user friendly for students. All they need is their student number so sign in to have access to ebooks and audiobooks. You have access as well! Go to www.soraapp.com to log in and read!
Please let us know if you are interested in any of these initiatives!
