Please be conscious of where you are in the process. Are you doing more than looking at the scores? Are conversations being had about what worked well and how we can support our students and one another? This is the MAGIC that I want to see our teams work towards and use to grow our TRIBE!!
Safety Updates for GBE
We will just need to be extra aware of when we enter and leave. This is always good practice. Thank you everyone.

PBS News from the Coaches:
Driven by Data: October Data
We are focusing our solution plan in November on Defiance and Disrespect.
Concerns: The classroom was the area with the biggest concern. Please continue to use active supervision to give pre corrects. Please remember to use your personal behavior management techniques in your classroom before assigning a Think Sheet. Think Sheets DO NOT have to be given by paper. A verbal Think about what happend and work through it is often more effective.
PBS Classroom Tip:
Offering Choice
Why provide choice?
· Providing opportunities for students to make choices has been demonstrated to be an effective intervention in preventing problem behavior and increasing engagement
· It is a feasible and easy intervention to implement
· Effective for students in general or special education
· Does not require significant modifications to existing instruction
Strategies for Offering Choice
Examples of Classroom Choice:
Ø Type of task or activity
Ø Order or sequence of tasks
Ø Kinds of materials that will be used
Ø Whom to work with
Ø Place to work
Ø Time when work will be completed
Provide choices before a task:
Ø When students will do a task
Ø What students will do after they complete the task
Ø How long students will work before taking a break
Ø Materials to use for completing the task
Provide choices during a task:
Ø Order in which students complete multiple tasks
Ø Peers to work with
Ø How to get teacher attention while working
Ø Where students will work
Steps for Using Choice in the Classroom:
1) Create a menu of choices you would be willing to provide to students
2) Look through your choice menu before planning each lesson
3) Decide what types of choice are appropriate for the lesson.
Provide choices as planned while teachin

Reading Counts October Challenge:
Our Reading Counts Challenge ended Tuesday. We did not meet the challenge school-wide, but the following classes met the challenge in their classrooms:
Mrs. Ragsdale, Mrs. Easley, Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Bond, Mr. Welch, Mrs. Sander. Way to go! Several classes were really close. Good effort everyone!
Mrs. St. Clair and Mrs. Doss are putting out heads together and going to have an incentive for these classes!!
Reading Counts data from August 15-October 25
Leading tribe - Mrs. Sander's 3rd grade class with a total of 1,421 Reading Counts points
Leading 5th grade tribe - Mrs. Childs (667 points)
Leading 4th grade tribe - Mrs. Ross (890 points)
Leading 3rd grade tribe - Mrs. Sander (1,421 points)
I encourage you to share the bulletin board with your class as you walk by. It's located outside the library door.
Wellness Grant Updates at GBE!!!
Gratz Brown Elementary was previously part of a Wellness grant that brought numerous healthy components to our building and campus. Things like flexible seating in classrooms, a walking trail, a 40 foot rock wall, stand up desks, as well as other things were able to be purchased because of the grant. We were saddened when the grant expired at the end of the 2018 school year but we are excited to announce this year we are part of a Wellness Initiative for the Missouri Foundation for Health. This is a new grant that we are starting. A certain part of the grant calls for each building to have a Student Wellness Group. The goal is for students to have a voice in school health activities, learn about health, and plan/participate in some kind of activity promoting health. They are going to be student wellness ambassadors for Gratz Brown Elementary. I have recently requested that all teachers nominate a student they feel would excel in this group. The Gratz Brown Elementary Wellness Team will review the nominations and seek out parental permission for the students to participate. We are hoping to continue making Gratz Brown Elementary one of the healthiest schools in the nation!

Reminders and To Do's:
- Emergency Sub Plans need to be put in place in all rooms; Let your team know where these are located for this event. Make a back up plan of how to split your class and put this in your sub folder and share with the office.
- Remember Formative and Summative data is vital to be reviewed and discussed in a timely manner then giving feedback to those students in the same fashion. Otherwise it is meaningless. Be sure your teams are following this mantra with assessments.
