Principal's Message
No one can believe how quickly the fall term came and went. Carisbrooke keeps everyone busy.
From the student council dress up days this week and new lunchtime clubs, Outdoor School and Body Science workshops, grade 6 /7 First Aid workshops, the big field trip to see the VSO, choir and band performances, and the daily fruits and mini Naan breads the students love. ( Costco! )
More importantly, however, is the amazing teaching and learning that happens each day in classrooms. Learning is not just for children, but for adults too. Our staff invited a coach to come and teach us how to play pickle ball. We had a ton of fun being together, exercising, and learning a new sport we hope to share with students this spring. We hope you enjoy a few pics of student work below. The staff look forward to another term of dedicated teaching and learning in January.
Grade 2 / 3 teachers Ms. Walker and Ms. Inglis asked "What's the most engaging way to teach students about place value?" Making Place Value Robots, of course!
Grades 3 and 4 students experiment with texture, line, and colour to create rhythm and movement in these beautiful abstract compositions that grace our hallway.
Students in Mr. Rickard's take a very close look at the amount of sugar in the drinks we consume.
Grade 6 Outdoor School
Getting ready for a delicious dinner in the dining hall.
Pedestrian Safety for Children
We want everyone to be safe this holiday. Please take the time to teach the little ones in your life to be watchful and alert this season when walking on sidewalks and crossing streets. Make sure your loved ones wear highly visible, light-coloured clothing with reflectors. Drivers, please be extra cautious this holiday season especially when weather conditions are poor and roads are icy. When Term 2 begins, consider parking 5 minutes away from the school to get some fresh air and add some steps into your morning routine. See Carisbrooke's safe walking route map created by the District of North Vancouver below.
The Giving Tree
Giving Tree gift certificates and presents go to seven grateful families in our community.
Carisbrooke Choir and Band Concert
Carisbrooke band students performed in the gym to a full house in the gym this month. Kudos to the beginner band students who only began learning their instruments this September. Ms. Inglis' choir delighted the audience with winter songs and performed their favourite tune ' Hot Chocolate'. Thank you to Ms. Inglis and Mr. Solomakha for sharing the love of music with students.
Teacher Highlight - The Marvelous Ms. Knibbs
Every now and again, a parent comes by the office to say how much they appreciate a teacher.
One parent, , recently arrived from Iceland, came in to say how Ms. Knibbs made her child feel a little extra welcome in the grade 2/3 classroom. A rather sneaky Icelandic Elf hid treats and messages in a shoe every morning and students couldn't wait to see what kind of Icelandic Elf surprise would await them every morning. Thank you, Ms. Knibbs!
Two more elves were busy making hot chocolate for students today. Thank you, Ms. Backie.
All of us at Carisbrooke wish students and families a peaceful and joyful holiday
and health and happiness in 2024.
In winter's embrace, laughter takes flight. Children, like snowflakes, pure and bright. Tiny tongues reach for flakes so sweet, A dance of joy in each snowy feat!
We look forward to welcoming students back to school Tuesday, January 8th.
