NEW Bell Schedule & Drop-off Procedures

NEW Bell Schedule:

Kindergarten 8:00 AM – 11:45 AM Monday through Friday

Extended kindergarten begins 10/11/21 when schedule becomes the same as Grades 1-3

Grades 1-3 8:00 AM – 2:05 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

8:00 AM - 1:10 PM Wednesday

Grades 4-5 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

8:00 AM – 1:10 PM Wednesday

Minimum Days: 1:10 PM

We have limited parking available at Nixon and many families travel to/from school by automobile. Please familiarize yourself with the following Arrival and Dismissal procedures to help our students transition smoothly to and from campus each day.

Morning Arrival

Student supervision is not available before school. Students should arrive no earlier than 7:45 AM and must head directly to their classroom.

Instruction begins at 8:00 AM. A "warning" bell will ring at 7:55 AM. Students arriving after 8:00 AM will be considered tardy. All students who are late must go to the office for a late slip.

Parents of students who are consistently dropped off earlier than 7:45 AM will receive formal notification by the school office.

Dismissal

Student supervision is not available after school. When school is dismissed, all students must leave campus for home or childcare or proceed directly to their afterschool program.

On dismissal, all students will go to their designated pick-up/exit location (Tolman Gate, Mears Gate, or Drive-Thru Area), where they should be picked up within 10 minutes of dismissal. No supervision is provided after that time.

Students who are not picked up within 10 minutes of school dismissal will be sent to wait at the school office where parents will be called. Please pick up your children promptly.

Families with both primary (K-3rd grade) and upper grade (4-5th) students must wait outside of the pick-up locations for upper grade dismissal to avoid disrupting upper grade instruction, afterschool programs, and teacher planning/preparation duties.

The community is welcome to enjoy our campus outside the hours of 7:45 AM-4:00 PM provided their presence does not disrupt After School programs, staff meetings and/or teacher preparation activities.

Note: Kindergarten is released at 11:45 AM each day through October 7, 2022. Beginning October 11, 2022, Kindergarten students will be released at the same times as grades 1-3.

We Love PiE and PTA!

One of the greatest strengths of this school is the incredible support we receive from our community. Nixon Partners in Education (PiE) and the Nixon Parent Teacher Association (PTA) work closely with our school site. These parent-led organizations work tirelessly to make possible great programs, valuable resources, and priceless memories! Please donate and volunteer today!

Nixon PiE

Donations of any amount to our education foundation, Partners in Education (PiE), are a vital way to support every student at Nixon. We simply could not continue to provide the high quality classroom, art, and music programs without the classroom aides and instructors that PiE funds! Please be on the lookout for PiE donation day events, or you can send a check to the office any day!

Find out more about Nixon PiE at: https://www.lmnixon.org/connecting/pie

Questions about PiE? Email them at nixon@papie.org.

Nixon PTA

The Nixon PTA provides funds for special non staff related school programs such as library and classroom instructional materials, technology, playground equipment, school spirit activities, student assemblies, family events, and school site facility and improvements needs. The PTA also supports all the school/home communication formats. These funds are raised throughout the year with special fundraising events.

Becoming a member of the Nixon PTA is easy! Just make a donation through Cheddar Up, or use this form to pay by check. Thank you!

School Meals Program

Last year, California became the first state in the country to approve FREE meals to ALL STUDENTS. PAUSD will be serving breakfast (during morning recess) and lunch to students who request a meal. Meal orders are collected by classroom teachers each morning to help food services plan meal delivery. Find out more about the School Lunch Program here: https://www.pausd.org/school-life/food-services/about-school-meals

To Do

Annual Data Update

Be sure to complete your Annual Data Update or ADU as soon as possible. The District sends ADU information to each family via email each year. If you did not receive this information please contact Registration Services at RegistrationServices@pausd.org or call 650-329-3707.

Part of the ADU includes a box that you can check to give permission to share your contact information with other members of the school community including PTA and room parents. This box must be checked in order for the school to share any of your contact information with any school-affiliated group including your child's classmates. Please update or enter your decision in the ADU.

Medications/Immunizations

Medical Forms:

If your child takes over-the-counter or prescription medications, they cannot be distributed or brought to school until forms signed by a parent/guardian and your child’s pediatrician are on file with the School Office. All necessary forms are accessible through: https://www.pausd.org/school-life/health-wellness/health-services

For families new to PAUSD: Please check the Health Services website for important information about immunization requirements.

Please contact LeeAnn Taylor in our office if you would like paper copies of any needed forms at ltaylor@pausd.org or by calling 650-856-1622.

Health & Safety

We are proud that we have been able to keep our community safe at school during the pandemic by following county guidance. The health and safety of our students, staff, and families remains a top priority. The Santa Clara County Health Department (SCCHD) has aligned with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance and PAUSD will be following their requirements so that we can continue to keep our communities safe.

COVID - 19 Testing

As per the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the District will no longer be providing surveillance testing. This means that only individuals who have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed should test. There will be two testing locations for staff and students who are symptomatic or have been exposed:

  • District Office
    25 Churchill Avenue
    Monday - Friday
  • 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

  • Cubberley Campus
    4000 Middlefield Rd
    Monday - Friday
    10:00 am - 5:00 pm

COVID - 19 Reporting

Schools will continue to report any cases using the same online reporting forms that were used last year.
