News For & About Raymore Elementary & Early Childhood

Happy September!

Dear Raymore and Early Childhood families,

It's hard to believe we have completed our first month of school together! What a wonderful gift it continues to be to work with your children this year as they build positive leadership skills and celebrate progress toward learning goals that our teachers are committed to helping them develop and reach. Thank you for partnering with us in that journey each day!

There have been many exciting events recently! A huge highlight is that our school earned full accreditation and 100% of the points! That is testimony to the amazing teachers, parents, and kids we have here. Way to go! Attendance has been tremendous at several recent events too: From our Curriculum Night to our chocolate bar fundraiser, and from our Sonic night to Paradise Park Night. What special opportunities to come together as a school family! Coming soon, we will be scheduling parent-teacher conferences using the online scheduling system, Sign-Up Genius. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your continued partnership and support each and every day as together we help your child develop a love of learning. As always, please feel free to call me if you ever have a concern or question. I am happy to help.

I wish each of you in our school community a wonderful September! Here comes fall!

Warmly,

Michelle Hofmann, Principal

Sept. 15~ Chocolate Bar Fundraiser to add Elementary Technology Wraps Up!

Thank you all for your participation and support of our efforts to add student devices in our classrooms to aid in their learning! We know that a great teacher is who creates great learning, and the devices will help our great teachers design & facilitate even more engaging learning activities for our kids with the devices this fundraiser will provide!

Thank you to those who have already returned proceeds from boxes sold that were due Sept. 15. If you haven't yet, please return all proceeds ($52 per box) for any remaining boxes. Remember, no partial boxes are able to be accepted back.

We are grateful to you for helping us wrap up the fundraiser by returning final proceeds and so we can soon determine how many devices we are able to add to classrooms! We also look forward in announcing winners of our Chromebooks and drawings! Mark your calendar: Prize Level 2 winners of the Zoom Truck and Bounce House will take place one evening in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for date & times!

Highlighting 4th Grade Learning!

Online Grade Book Update & Delay

Due to ongoing improvements to the TeacherEase online gradebook site, access to the parent portion of our new gradebook will not be ready for release by September 15th. We apologize for the delay, but we are working directly with TeacherEase in order to provide a high quality product that meets the needs of our district. We are hopeful all upgrades will be complete by mid-October. More information will be provided as soon as it is available. Thank you for your patience, and we are excited about being able to offer parents greater access to their child's learning. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher with specific questions concerning their progress.

Character, Leadership & the Seven Habits of Happy Kids!

We believe character education is a key part of helping our students learn and grow, and we also believe in our vision of "Turning today's learners into tomorrow's leaders." In keeping with that, this year we will take our past journey of learning about Stephen Covey's 7 Habits and expand our character and leadership programs at Raymore! For example students hold leadership jobs in each classroom, and several older students applied to be building leaders in the areas they feel are strengths. Sept. 17 those roles will be announced and include Change Makers (service projects), Buddy to younger student, Morning Greeter, and more! As a resource, our classroom teachers and students use the book The Seven Habits of Happy Kids http://www.seancovey.com/books_7kids.html. Each month this year, I will highlight one of the habits in this newsletter.

Security and facility upgrades complete!

As you have all seen by now, our district and school board completed exciting upgrades here at our school! These include a new secured front entrance, a secured gym entrance, violent intruder training for staff, a new classroom, and a new front office. These exciting upgrades and training have been wonderful additions to our school. Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive feedback and comments you have offered! As always, we continue both goals of ensuring safety as well as a welcoming environment, and I appreciate your help and feedback in that process.

Get Free Books for Your Class with Sunny D Labels!

Once again, for every 20 labels turned in, we can get 20 Scholastic books (grade appropriate) for your child's classroom. We just need the Sunny D LABELS ...no bottles please! Labels have to be turned in by November 30 to PTA. Send them in with your child, and there will also be a bucket in the front lobby. Our PTA will then take care of submitting them to Sunny D. Thank you!

C.A.N. needs our help each week!

Daily in our lobby you can find donation bins for the district's C.A.N. program. This amazing program that provides child-friendly food over the weekends for students in need began right here at Raymore by our very own PTA and counselor, Mrs. Beck. Bring one item, bring a package....whatever you can.

Visit our weekly menu site and donate anything on it! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090E48ABAC2FAA8-caring

Would You Like to View Your Child's Assessment Progress?

Our teachers regularly gather information about what your child knows and is able to do so they can identify gaps in learning progress and provide engaging opportunities to challenge them. The great news is that at anytime you have access to many of those scores yourself through our School Information System (SIS). For assessment information, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Raymore-Peculiar School District website at the following web address: http://www.raypec.k12.mo.us/
  2. Look on the left side of the page and find "Quick Links".
  3. Click on "Parent Portal (SIS)"
  4. Click on the "Parents" tab and type in your user name and password.
  5. If you do not have a user name and password, contact the school secretary for assistance.
  6. Log in to SIS.
  7. Once you have entered your user name and password, look to the left hand side of the screen and click on "Assessments".
  8. Depending on the grade level, there are different assessments available.
  9. Contact your child's classroom teacher if you have questions.

An Ella Joe-Inspired ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

First grader Shelby Thompson, in Mrs. Sorrick's class, challenged me along with our Raymore office team to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. We passed it along to our Specials team who challenged our 4th grade team who challenged our EC staff. The EC staff not only participated, but with a twist! They wore Ella Joe's favorite colors of pink and green and doused themselves with green water showing we are Ella Joe Strong! They passed the challenge to the kindergarten team at Stonegate Elementary, Ella's home school. Supporting both ALS research & Ella Joe!
