Why do people create art?
FIRST DAY OF ART CLASS
What?!
You painted on the 1st day of school?!
Are you crazy?!
Crazy? No. Daring? Yes. The first day is full of rules, rules, rules and more rules. I didn't want to look out at a crowd of glazed over eyes and overloaded brains. So I decided to jump right in and have them stretch their art muscles with a painting activity that explored the Elements of Art: Line, Shape and Color.
It was such a treat to have a day full of color and creativity.

What is happening in Art class?
1st day of Art Class: exploring The Elements of Art: Line, Shape and Color. Expect that painting to come home the first week. We are warming up our Art muscles that some students have not used during the summer.
2nd day of Art Class: Developing a Growth Mindset: Part 1. Celebrating International Dot Day. The Dot is written and illustrated by Peter. H Reynolds. I love this book because it encourages people to take on challenges and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Through practice, hard work and not giving up, we can grow our intelligence, talents and abilities. I use it to reinforce our development of a Growth Mindset. Students explore different supplies and techniques as they rotate through Art centers to create unique dots.
3rd day of Art Class: Developing a Growth Mindset: Part 2. Exploring our Fantastic Elastic Brain and Bubble Gum Brain. These books teach children that they have the ability grow their own brains. It also delivers the crucial message that mistakes are an essential part of learning. Plus, it introduces the power of "Yet."
4th day of Art Class: What to do when there is a substitute teacher. We will cover the routines, activities and expectations for the times there is a sub in the Art room.
