Shark News
November 2018
A Note from the Principal:
I hope you have enjoyed our family events this month. Our Math and Muffins was a huge success! It is always heart warming to see our Media Center packed with parents, students and teachers! Students decorated hats to wear on 10/31 at our Vocabulary Hat Parade! What creative Sharks we have! On Monday, November 19, we will have our traditional Thanksgiving Banquet. Remember that parents must volunteer to participate.
As always, we appreciate your support in making your child's learning experience the best ever! #NPEDreamTeam

Building a Growth Mindset
Do you have Grit?
1) Each member of the family has to do something hard.
2) You must finish what you start.
3) No one gets to pick the “hard thing” for anyone else, so your child gets to choose his own challenge.
Talk about setbacks as they arise. Help your child build a plan B or C when necessary. Share your feelings about your challenge and celebrate when family members attempt persevere through difficult tasks.
Take the Blue Zone Pledge
Counselor’s Corner
Your child is involved in learning activities during November that promote RESOURCESFULNESS. Resourcefulness includes encouraging your child to solve their own problems peacefully. Here are a few strategies you can use at home to help them become independent problem solvers.
1. Help your child name their emotion. Often children express themselves with behavior instead of words. Have them say, "I feel ____ when you______. Will you please ____."
2. Brainstorm strategies such as sharing, trading, walking away from trouble, apologizing, rock-paper-scissors, talking about feelings, ignoring, and getting help.
3. Listen to understand your child instead of listening to respond and "fix" things. Give comments such as, "I am here for you, or I believe you make good choices."
4. Be Tenacious! If one solution doesn't work, try something new! Never give up.
Please feel free to call me at any time with concerns or questions. Make it a fantastic day!

Thanksgiving Banquet
November 19, 2018
This fun NPE tradition can only be attended by volunteers who help set up, serve the students & staff at NPE, and clean up. All participants must be approved through the district as a volunteer. Please be sure your volunteer status is up to date. Volunteers are required to wear a white shirt and black pants and report to the cafeteria by 9:30am to help decorate and set up. Plan to stay for the entire event, which will end approximately at 1:30 pm. This is a wonderful event that you don’t want to miss!!!
Every effort will be made to assign parent volunteers to their child’s table; however, assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis. Please complete this form and return it to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, November 6th. Please contact us with questions at: NaplesParkPTO@aol.com.
