Student Engagement (Attendance) Until We Resume In-Person Instruction 2020
SPASD Family Guidance for Student Attendance/Engagement
During Distance Learning
We are committed to providing equitable access and opportunity for all students to engage in Distance Learning. We know that Distance Learning will be asynchronous and our student engagement tracking methods will honor this.
Our rationale for tracking engagement is two fold:
To make sure the basic needs of our learners are being met
To make sure that each student has the ability to access learning in a way that is workable for them
Student attendance will be documented in IC per usual through March 12. There will be no official count for distance learning days for the remainder of 3rd Quarter or for 4th Quarter (see below).
We will switch from traditional attendance tracking to monitoring student engagement during 4th Quarter Distance Learning Days. Student engagement will be logged as weekly engagement on Fridays.
Evidence of student engagement may include:
Evidence of logging onto distance learning site
Completion of assignments/artifacts
Participation in virtual discussion
Contact with teacher via email or online platform
Student logs/journals of their learning
Contact with teacher via phone call or other means to discuss learning
Documentation in Infinite Campus:
Students/Families who meet any of the conditions outlined above on any given day during a 1 week period will be marked as present/engaged in IC for that week. Engagement will be logged every Thursday, based upon the student’s interactions for that week.
Distance Learning Schedule beginning April 6 until In-Person Instruction Resumes
As you know, we planned our first seven days of distance learning from March 19-20 and March 30-April 3. We created our schedule before knowing whether or not Governor Evers would waive the requirements for hours of instruction for 2019-20. We now know waivers will be granted. The TLE team has also reviewed best practice in distance learning. Based on the waiver and best practice, we will move to the following schedule beginning April 6, 2020.
Day of the week
Activities

MONDAY
PLC and planning
Staff only
TUESDAY

What happens during:
Instruction Days
Synchronous learning - students (in whole or small groups) meeting to discuss learning at the same time. (eg: Zoom meeting)
Asynchronous learning - learning objectives and standards are shared with students and families. Students engage in learning on their own time. Interaction with learning objects can include reflection, response or answers to questions.
Visit the Distance learning tab on the District Curriculum Website for more details and guidelines for age appropriate recommendations.
What happens during:
Conferring and Check-In Day
Teachers will…
Contact families/students who have not engaged during the week. (record notes/details)
Enter weekly attendance for students who have engaged in distance learning.
Review remaining work submitted, offer feedback on student work.
Check-in individually with homeroom, advisory, or caseload students
Zoom Instructions for students
Census
Consider taking the Census with your student(s) so they can see what the process looks like.
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau undertakes a mammoth task: counting all the people residing in the United States. This count affects the allocation of funding for our community’s public resources (e.g., roads, hospitals, schools), how we plan for the future, and our voice in government. Learn more about the importance of the #2020Census and how to participate: 2020census.gov.
2020-2021 Kindergarten Enrollment
Congratulations and welcome to incoming kindergarten students in the 2020-21 school year. The incoming group of kindergarten students will be the high school graduating class of 2033. We are honored to be your school system of choice and to partner with you on your child’s journey toward a college and/or career ready future.

Bird Elementary, Creekside Elementary, Eastside Elementary, Horizon Elementary, Meadow View Elementary, Northside Elementary, Royal Oaks Elementary, Token Springs Elementary, and Westside Elementary.
To find which elementary school your child will attend and if your child is eligible for district provided transportation click on this map and or visit the Transportation webpage.
If your child attended SP4K and your address has changed or if you do not plan to have your child attend our elementary school for any reason, please contact Cindy Schmitz, 4K Secretary at 608.834.6672.
If your child has a special health condition that requires more care or if you would like to talk to our District Health Nurse about health related questions, please call Debbie Brown at 608.834.6583.
Over the next several months between now and the start of the 2020-2021 school year you will receive more information about your school, ways to get to know your school better, and about how to be ready for the start of kindergarten. Watch for the following information

We Look forward to serving you!
Enrollment Information
The Sun Prairie Area School District has a simple process for transferring 4K students into 5K for the next school year. Students already in SP4K will automatically be enrolled in 5K at the assigned elementary school based on the current home address (see map). Families who are Open Enrolled into an SP4K program will be contacted by our Business Office about plans for 2020-21. If your child currently does not attend a Sun Prairie 4K site and plans to attend 5K, be sure to begin with the Enrolling Students page and go to "Begin the Enrollment Process" for instructions. Please call the 4K office at 608.834.6672 if you have questions.
From Mrs. Schmidt
Music on Seesaw
Music assignments are being posted on Seesaw every Tuesday for each grade level. I have enjoyed seeing your responses thus far, and I look forward to seeing more! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Schmidt at crschmi@sunprairieschools.org. My office hours during Distance Learning are 9:00am-11:00am each weekday, and additionally on Friday from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
Eastside Music Website
https://sites.google.com/sunprairieschools.org/eastsidemusic/home
This site has been a project for Ms. Schmidt for some time, and was not going to be rolled out until the summer. In light of recent events, it is out to you early to use! This website will hold information on what we do in Music, additional activities, and announcements that have been communicated elsewhere. This will be up all year round, not just for Distance Learning. Enjoy!
Concerts Canceled Indefinitely
Due to our rapidly changing situation, Eastside concerts and informances will be canceled indefinitely. With the combination of lost rehearsal time and necessary curriculum that we have yet to cover, and the uncertainty of what the rest of our school year looks like, it breaks my heart to make this decision. Although performances are canceled, Music is not! I look forward to communicating and making music with you virtually through Seesaw, email, Zoom, and the new website.
STATEMENT OF NONDISCRIMINATION
No student may be unlawfully discriminated against in any school programs, activities or in facilities usage because of the student’s sex (gender identity, gender expressions, and non-conformity to gender role stereotypes), color, religion, profession, or demonstration of belief or non-belief, race, national origin (including limited English proficiency), ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, homelessness status, sexual orientation, age, or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability. Harassment is a form of discrimination and shall not be tolerated in the District. It is the responsibility of administrators, staff members and all students to ensure that student discrimination or harassment does not occur. (SPASD District Policy JB)
