Tonasket Middle School
TMS School Start Information
Dear Tiger Family!!
Here we are ready for the new school year to start!! It may not be exactly how we hoped and expected, but we cannot wait to connect with you, and we are working hard to prepare for an exciting year of learning opportunities.
Five months ago when school closed unexpectedly, we had some strict guidelines to follow from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) which impacted how school could be operated. With our reopening, we want everyone to know that our Flexible remote learning 2.0 is VERY different than how things looked in the Spring. Attendance is mandatory, no matter which program you are enrolled in. Instruction will occur on a regular basis. Assignments will be given and graded.
New this year to TMS is the block schedule. What does that mean? Students will have FOUR block classes each semester. Students will have a total of eight classes for this school year. If a student completes ELA during the first semester, the student will be done with English for the year. When we return face-to-face, students will be in four 84-minute classes.
The reasons we moved to the block schedule for this year include: To minimize student transitions when we return to the building, decrease the number of contacts students will have in a day, and help students manage their workload both online and in person.
Included in this letter is the Online Learning Schedule for students enrolled in the flexible learning program. Your student’s homeroom teacher will be reaching out to you to schedule a conference for either August 31 or September 1. Conferences are very important, as students will be picking up their Chromebook, getting their google classroom codes, and connecting with their teacher. We have approval for onsite conferences only if we are abiding by health guidelines of 6-foot distancing and masks. The student and ONE parent should attend the conference. Screening for symptoms and fevers will take place prior to entering the building. If you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to COVID please contact us for a virtual conference. PLEASE, regularly check your email!
We are also offering Tonasket Online Academy (TOA). This program is independent learning, and a Tonasket teacher will monitor and provide support. However, students will not be in class with other students or receiving instruction from TMS teachers. If you have signed up for TOA, but you believe that you would learn best by working with other students (for now online) and receiving instruction from our teachers, please call the office at 486-2147, as you can still switch to the Flexible option. If you have any questions about TOA, please contact the MS office.
In a time where it feels like our world is chaotic and even scary, I am filled with HOPE and the belief that we are resilient, and we will keep moving forward.
Much love,
Principal Krieg
