Safety Reminders

Greetings Families,


It has been some time since children have had to follow rules in the school setting. We are taking the time to review procedures and rules so that all children know what to expect. Assistance and guidance is being given to students who are experiencing the school setting for the first time. All students will be reminded to follow the basic safety rules of being safe, respectful, and responsible in all areas of the campus. Our focus this week will be safety on the playground.


School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (SWPBIS)

Remind Students to Be SAFE on the playground by:

Walking to play areas.

Keeping hands and feet to themselves.

Listening for the bell and whistle and then walking slowly to the line.

No personal equipment or toys on the yard.

Wearing masks at all times.

Avoiding play on the asphalt hills

COVID Testing Update:

  • After students (staff) complete their baseline testing, all further testing will take place at the school sites.
  • After completing their baseline testing, students (staff) should not make additional appointments
  • Students (staff) participating in school-based testing will remain eligible to receive the Daily Pass QR code.
  • All out-of-district test must be uploaded to the Parent Portal.

Billie Eilish, Fender partner to expand music education in Highland Park

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The Fender Play Foundation announced a partnership Monday with Grammy-winning brother-sister team Billie Eilish and Finneas to expand a youth music education program for Los Angeles Unified schools in Highland Park.


With contributions from Eilish and Finneas, the Fender Play Foundation and L.A. Unified will provide instruments and weekly in-person music instruction to close to 2,500 elementary school students across 10 Highland Park schools for the next three years.

The program will educate 50 LAUSD teachers to play ukulele alongside the kids in their classrooms. All students and teachers will receive new ukulele packs donated by Fender to the schools.

"Music changed my life, and it's an incredible feeling to be able to give back to my hometown and provide other kids with the very instrument that made me fall in love with songwriting in the first place," Eilish said. "Through this program, I hope we can help inspire the next generation of creatives."

Interim LAUSD Superintendent Megan K. Reilly added, "Playing music has been shown to strengthen social bonds by helping students find friends and cultivate a sense of community and creative expression."

Since launching in June 2020, the LA Unified program has expanded to 5,000 students, and has donated over $1 million in resources and equipment.

Aldama Elementary School is part of the partnership with all of our 4th and 5th graders taking part in the program.


Student and Staff Safety is #1 - Isolation/Quarantine Procedures

Students who have a fever or any other COVID-like symptoms will be sent to a designated isolation area (bottom level, near elevator of the main building) and the parent/caregiver will be called for immediate pick-up. In addition, any other student living in the household will be included in the quarantine. Students will be switched to virtual learning and cannot return to in person learning until they can produce a negative COVID test.


TEACHERS/STAFF

  1. Fill out the COVID Teacher Referral Form.

  2. Call the office ext. 203 to inform them that a student is being sent to isolation/quarantine. Please verbally inform them of the COVID symptom(s) they have.

  3. Send student to the isolation/quarantine area alone (as an adult will receive them as they are walking).

  4. The student is to join your virtual instruction while until a negative COVID test is presented to the principal.

  5. DO NOT ACCEPT the student back in class unless cleared by principal.

OFFICE

  1. Call parents immediately and inform them that their child has been sent to isolation because of experiencing COVID symptoms (please describe symptom(s) to parent)

  2. Inform the principal that a student has one or more COVID symptoms.

  3. When parent or emergency contact arrives, verify their identity. Fill out a blue slip so that the parent can deliver that to isolation/quarantine area.

  4. Tell the parent to pick up their child at the green gate.

  5. Tell the parent that the student is to join the virtual cohort of instruction until a negative COVID test is presented to the principal.

ISOLATION/QUARANTINE AREA

  1. Use the required PPE which includes N95 mask, gown, and gloves at all times.

  2. Maintain significant distance from the student. We are to provide visual supervision.

  3. Write the child’s name on the isolation/quarantine log when they arrive.

  4. Open the green gate and escort child to parent. They should present a blue slip allowing informing you that the student has been processed by the main office as the appropriate parent.

CUSTODIAL SUPPORT

  1. Disinfect the classroom of the student who was sent to isolation/quarantine.

  2. Disinfect the isolation/quarantine area after the student leaves.

  3. Disinfect the restroom in the isolation/quarantine area.

PRINCIPAL

  1. The principal will monitor the implementation of the Isolation/quarantine area.

  2. The principal will ensure that all members do their part.

  3. The principal will follow-up with the student and their family to ensure that they have been advised of a required COVID test.

  4. The principal will ensure that the teacher and school gate keepers are aware that the student .

Free Immunizations

Free immunizations are being offered at Student & Family Wellness Centers, serving students and siblings ages 1 to 18 years. Immunizations are available to those who are eligible, with or without health insurance.

Immunization requirements for admission to school or childcare in California for the 2021-2022 school year remain in place.

Clinics are open for immunizations only, and they are following COVID-19 safety guidelines. Masks are required for everyone 2 years and older.
