Together Growing In Friendship
Staff Spotlight: Rick Hennessey
As a way of encouraging open communication with his TGIF group, Rick had the creative idea to construct an Advisory Mailbox. The box "will be hanging outside my door for students to use if they want to write me a note to talk about anything on their mind…It could be something that is bothering them, something going on in their personal life, something at school, or to celebrate something positive that has happened in their life."
Fantastic idea, Rick! We look forward to hearing more about this great plan.
Advisory Success in Tennessee

I’m impressed with how the advisory program creates opportunities for students to improve their creative, communication, collaborative and critical thinking skills, and allows me to get to know Eagle View students outside of my grade.

I went to Tuesday tips and did the same activity John and Karen presented. I also had the student pair up with someone from a different grade and introduce them. We ran out of time. I think it will be a great experience and I like that it is mixed grade levels.

The biggest thing I am looking forward to about Advisory is the chance to get to know students on a deeper level. I anticipate creating relationships that will continue to grow and evolve throughout student’s time at Eagle View and beyond. In my group, I think the biggest hurdle I am going to face this year is getting some of the students on board. I am having my students journal back and forth with me each time we meet and several of them expressed their dislike of the idea of this group already. Even though I know it won’t be easy, I am viewing it as a mission to connect and grow with them throughout this year. I know there is a reason I was given these specific kids and can’t wait to see how they grow and change throughout the year!
