Updates from our Principal
Good afternoon Firebird Nation,
Happy Friday!! This was our first week back from Spring Break. I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break. We have just 7 weeks left until the end of the school year and everything is moving quickly. Our 8th grade students and families will have the opportunity this coming Monday, April 10th, to attend FHS’s 9th grade orientation for next school year. I will be talking with our 7th grade students to ensure they are ready to step up their behavior and become our 8th grade leaders next year. It is incredibly hard to believe our 6th grade students are almost done with their first year in middle school. It is amazing how fast the year is moving.
To all our 8th Grade Students and Families, be on the lookout for a letter from FMS regarding the specifics for our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Promotion is scheduled for Thursday, May 25th, at 9:30 am. Once again, our promotion ceremony will be held in our own FMS stadium. For this ceremony it will be open seating on the football field itself. Therefore, families should plan to bring blankets, camping chairs, etc. to find a space on the field. The ceremony will take place on the risers of the stadium for everyone to see. There will be no limitations on the number of guests that can attend. Please Note: If adverse weather conditions become a concern that week, we will work to secure an indoor location which might result in placing limitations on guests. More information to follow. In the meantime, let’s all hope for great weather during the final week of school.
This week marked the beginning of our CMAS testing. 8th grade students tested both Wednesday and Friday. Due to the delay day yesterday, we are delayed by one day. Thank you, ahead of time, to our 8th graders for putting forth a strong effort this week and next. Next week, once 8th grade is complete, we will continue with the other grade levels to be complete by April 21st. I encourage all students to get a good night’s rest, eat a good breakfast, and put your best effort forward all month!
Our spring sports are rolling along. Hopefully our weather begins to cooperate. It will be awesome to see our Firebirds competing and cheering on their peers. Our athletes continue to work hard on and off the field/track. Let’s continue to grow and bring home more victories Firebirds!
I hope everyone has a great weekend. It does look like our weather will be amazing.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Elena Forehand
Principal

Personalized learning is more challenging in a class like Physical Education. In PE, the focus is often on team sports, learning the rules of a game, and using a variety of equipment, so the class doesn't often lend itself to individualized learning. However, our PE teachers, Harrison Sundgren and Robin Morris, have found a way to personalize PE for students by having them set personal fitness goals. Each Friday, students complete a pacer test or a plank test. The focus is on individual improvement rather than competition. Students set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals for their fitness, and they work to improve week after week. Check out the video below to see students complete their final pacer test of the quarter and reflect on their goals. Personalized learning at work!

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
Construction is coming down to the end and finishing touches are being completed. The majority of our construction project will be complete by May 18th. The last remaining piece will be to remove the dividing wall inside of Bennett Ranch to officially join the two areas together. This wall will be removed once students depart over the first few couple of weeks in June. In our pictures, you can see that the new gym floor has been installed and they are just working on the painting and finishing details at this point. Landscaping around the existing BRES building has been updated and improved with a new walkway installed. Most classrooms areas on the first floor are beginning to work on lunch lists which means they are in the final completion stage. We look forward to sharing the finished product with you in just a couple of months!
