Congressional App Challenge
Congressman Neguse invites all middle and high school students to participate in the Congressional App Challenge! https://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/ This is an excellent opportunity to engage students in STEM and to make learning fun – it also looks great on a resume! Last year’s winner, Andrew Woen, will tell you that winning the challenge changed his life. After winning, he was invited onto news stations, panel discussions, and he received $1000 to further develop his app. All participants will have the opportunity to showcase their apps to local professionals, and all will have the chance to virtually meet Congressman Neguse. Apps are due on October 19, 2020.
To assist students in participating in the App Challenge, Congressman Neguse is hosting a virtual “App-a-thon” where students, teachers, and coders are invited and work together to create apps for the challenge. The App-a-thon will take place on October 8, 2020 from 3pm – 6pm. Students may register for the challenge by going to www.NeguseAppChallenge.com (If any non-students on this email would like to volunteer for coding support during the App-a-thon, please email me ASAP.)
The Schedule for the App-a-thon is as follows:

Our panel will include:

Virtual Teen Self Care Fair
In past years a group, ImagineZERO Suicide has sponsored a teen self care fair for teens in Northern Colorado. This year it was cancelled due to Covid, However, Thompson Teens United collaborated with ImagineZERO to create a virtual self care fair.
The self care fair is accessed by teenselfcarefair.org . On this site there are resources for help, self-care activities, and the opportunity for earning scholarships and prizes up to $100. All students have to do is participate in some way. We have asked the Loveland and Northern Colorado community to help us with this endeavor. On this site you will find contributions from many community groups.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES AT MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Model United Nations
Model UN or MUN is a special kind of debate competition that places students into the shoes of the global negotiators whose policy decisions affect everything from armed conflict and nuclear weaponry to economic sanctions and trade agreements. If you're interested in real world issues, debate, and intense competition then this is the club for you. This is an esteemed club recognized by all the Ivy League Colleges as well as international schools and looks good on all college applications.
