The Year Continues....
We are entering the 2nd half of the year and seeing some great results from the work students and teachers are doing. Now is the time to get our 2nd wind and finish strong. It is great to see all the parent volunteers, PTO members and teachers that support the extra activities that occur throughout the year. The work that all of us do, above and beyond what is expected, is the difference between having a good school or a great school. Thank you!
As we press on, please know that the staff and I at CPE will continue to work hard for your children.

Return of the Jedi......wait, no it's RETURN OF THE MUSIC TEACHER!
We are happy to announce that we have our music teacher back at CPE. Heather Hutton will be your child’s music teacher. K-5th grade students will receive music instruction once or twice a week for the next 9 weeks. We are excited about this opportunity to get your child involved in music! Please look for more information on our music program and performances in the upcoming newsletters.
Here is a personal note from Mrs. Hutton-
I've been receiving such a warm welcome from students and staff here! My main goal is to teach foundational musical skills in a way that is accessible and enjoyable for every student. I also hope that the classes bring an extra dose of inspiration to those who want to continue with music throughout their lives in increased ways. Let me know if you have any questions. Or, if you'd like to visit one of your child's music classes, please check with the classroom teacher. It'd be great to share with you what we're doing!

Attendance at CPE
We recently reviewed our attendance rate at CPE. Our school average is about 95% attendance each year. That equates to students missing about 1 day per month of school. As all of you know, regular attendance (and being on time...school starts at 7:45 for K and 7:55 a.m. for grades 1-5) is paramount in making academic and social growth. We have sent home letters if your student has fallen below the 95% average. We recognize that Winter months are often characterized with illnesses, holidays and other family circumstances and we work hard to understand the individual dynamics of each student situation. By no means, do we want ill students to attend school just to maintain their attendance rate. If they are legitimately ill, they should stay home. However, it is important that parents are aware of their student’s attendance rate compared to the average and we all strive to be here as much as possible. As better weather and more daylight approach, we hope to see our school maintain our 95% average (or better). Thank you for making every effort to schedule appointments outside of the school day and send your student to school each day.
Coupon Books are Coming February 25th!
We hope you will support students at CPE by promoting our coupon book program. This is a great way to provide opportunities for field trips and place technology in the classrooms. Order forms will be sent home soon. If every student sells 1 book, we will make over 5K in profits! Coupon books will be $10. Please read over the order forms carefully. If we reach our goal of selling 700 books, Mr. Davenport will kiss a Pig.... again! Participating students will be entered into a drawing for a Kindle.
*There is another drop off area for grades 1-5*
The CPE parking lot between 7:30 and 7:55
resembles LAX international airport during a holiday weekend. Here are some things you can do to help the situation:
· Pull as far forward in the circle as possible before unloading.
· Say your “goodbyes” and “I love you’s” before unloading.
· Have students exit from the right hand side of the car.
· Avoid passing other vehicles.
· Remind students to walk into the building
To help with the traffic congestion, grades 1-5 may be dropped off and enter through the playground gate on Bush St. Parents may not enter through this gate. If parents wish to enter the school building, please go through the front entrance and sign in. Thank you for helping keep our kids safe.
