GFES Library Information

-More Than Just Books-

I am Casey Allsbrooks, GFES's Librarian. I am so happy to be back in elementary. I just began my 27th year in education, but my 9th year as a Librarian. I was an educator at the elementary level for 18 years teaching Kindergarten - 4th grades, as well as, serving as a Literacy Coach/Response to Intervention Specialist. Once I obtained my Library degree and certification, I spent 8 years as Boswell High School's librarian. I missed my little people, so I decided I must go back.

NEW Books are ON THE WAY!

I just placed an order for 450 more books. We are still waiting on these books.

I hope to be finished genrifying the Fiction section by the time we come back from Winter Break! This will help students find books of interest a lot quicker.

Adopt - a - Shelf : Library Assistant (5th graders)

We started Adopt - a - Shelf: Library Assistant on October 4th. Responsible and Respectful Gators were nominated by the homeroom teacher. These students will be helping in the library by shelving books, straightening and dusting shelves, as well as, helping with morning checkout. We will rotate students approximately every 6 weeks.

Reading Bingo

Reading Bingo has now been introduced to all students at Greenfield. Students received a red paper with Bingo on one side and an information letter on the backside. Once a student finishes the red Bingo paper, he/she will return it for a prize and an orange Bingo paper. The process will continue through six different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple). If a student completes all six Bingo papers by the end of April, he/she will be invited to the Bingo party in May.

Texas Library Association Reading Lists 2021-2022

We will be focusing on these lists throughout the year in the library. As of this newsletter, I only have 1 copy of each book. However, more have been ordered and will hopefully arrive soon. You are more than welcome to check out the public libraries in our area for copies, as well.

Kinder - 2nd Grade

Check out the 2021 2x2 Book List! These are stories perfect for students from age 2 all the way to grade 2! I will be introducing these books to Kindergarten - 2nd grade in the next few weeks. They will have a tracking sheet to mark the books they have read or that have been read to them. Once the tracking sheet is complete, it can be turned in for a prize.

3rd-5th Graders

2021 Bluebonnet Books

Students have been introduced to these books by watching book trailers during Library time. Each student has a tracking sheet that will remain in the library to record which books he/she has read. Before placing a checkmark on the tracking sheet indicating the student has read the book, he/she will be asked questions about the book, as well as, required to provide a verbal summary (more practice on reading skills).

If students read at least 5 by January (unsure of date at this moment), then those students are eligible to vote in January 2022 for the Bluebonnet winner!

Battle of the Books

In April 2022, interested students in grades 3-5 will be able to compete in a team competition over 10 books. These 10 books are pulled from the Bluebonnet list. More information will be shared in coming weeks.

Greenfield Library Catalog Search

Click on this button to access GFES Library Catalog.

Use the library catalog to see if we have a book, ebook, or playaway your child is interested in. Students can place books and playaways on hold (although we haven't gone over how to do that, but will). I will get the items to the students as soon as possible. In order to place items on hold and access ebooks, students will need to use a username and password. Usernames and passwords are the student's 6 digit ID numbers for both fields.

Greenfield Library Databases

I will be working with grades 2-5 using databases rather than Google. I am unable to post the usernames and passwords for databases. However, email me and ask for a specific database's login information, and I will respond as soon as I receive it.

Greenfield Library Mission

The mission of the Greenfield Elementary Library Program is to foster a 21st century positive learning environment that ensures all Gators are effective and ethical users and producers of ideas and information, provides equitable access to all forms of information, develops critical thinkers, instills a love of reading, and maintains a current collection of print and technology that represents our changing school, community, and world.
