Timothy Ball News October 14 - 18
Welcoming all. Believing in all. Growth for all.
A Note from Mr. Ciochina
On Wednesday of this week, teachers emailed out sign up information for Parent-Teacher conferences. Parents/guardians will sign up using each teacher's unique link for signup.com. With this system, you are able to choose a date and time that works for you. These conferences are a great opportunity to collaborate with your child's teacher. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions about how to sign up.
Keep in mind: We have NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 11 or Monday October 14 for Fall Break! Enjoy the long weekend!
Thank you for being a fantastic partner in education. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Social-Emotional News from Mrs. Holok
Did you know that today, Thursday October 10th is World Mental Health Day? 1 in 5 children have a diagnosable mental health challenge. Often times, even in today’s society, there is still a stigma associated with mental health treatment. It is important to remember that a mental health illness is just that, an illness. It does not define a person or have to be a permanent struggle. If you think of it like this: if you or your child were diagnosed with diabetes, you would seek treatment. The same should go with depression, anxiety, or any other mental health condition. For more information on mental health conditions, please visit http://www.mhalakecounty.org/.
Have a great-long weekend.

Personal Safety Education for Students:
In order to meet legal requirements, Crown Point school counselors and home-school facilitators will be providing age appropriate, research-informed student personal safety sessions beginning September 2019 and completing by December 2019. At the elementary level, students will learn the Protect Yourself Rules with their counselor or home-school facilitator in a classroom session of 30-40 minutes. Parents can view the Protect Yourself Rules and related materials at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation website fightchildabuse.org. This is the same programming that was used last year as well. Parents are encouraged to contact Mrs. Holok (jholok@cps.k12.in.us) or Mr Ciochina (nciochina@cps.k12.in.us) or at 663-0047 if you have any questions.

Stomp Out Bullying Tip
Be an upstander instead of a bystander. A bystander is someone who witnesses bullying but doesn't get involved. An upstander is someone who knows what's happening is wrong and does something to make it right.

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Attention: If your child has a Dr. note restricting them from PE they must sit out from recess. They can sit on the bench with a book or game. This is to keep them safe from further injury. If you have any questions please contact our nurse, Mrs. Schurch.
Regarding Taking Medication at School - Remember that ALL medications must be accompanied by doctor & parent notes. Otherwise the medication cannot be given at school. All medication must be in its original container. All prescription medication must have the correct information on the label. Also, no cough drops, or essential oils are allowed at school unless accompanied by doctor & parent notes. No child should be bringing medication to school in order to self medicate.
Regarding Illness - Please keep all sick children home if they are running a fever of 100.0 or above, vomiting, or have diarrhea. A child running a fever can return to school once he/she has been fever free for 24 hours.
