Toms River High School East
Newsletter - March 7, 2022
Dear Families,
How was your weekend? The weather is turning for the better (temperature). I certainly appreciate walking out of the house without a jacket. Unfortunately, the rain hampered my enthusiasm on Sunday but I am looking forward to better days ahead! If you get the chance, check out, Against the Ice, on Netflix. The movie was based on the true story of Denmark's 1909 polar expedition to claim Greenland. I think it is remarkable the levels the explorers went to for their country!
Teachers Who Rock!
Congratulations to our very own, Mrs. Jennifer Fazzini for being recognized as a Teacher Who Rocks by WJRZ! Mrs. Fazzini teaches AP Biology at East, co-created our Renaissance Program, and is a Student Council Advisor! Check out what was said about her on the radio this week
Jen Fazzini is an incredibly dedicated teacher who strives to make her students be the best possible “scientists” out there. Her passion and knowledge for science and biology curriculum is truly amazing.
- Jen is tough as nails and requires her students to work hard in order to be successful. She is demanding in the classroom, but she still makes learning fun. Jen takes every concern of her students personally. She wants them to be successful by working hard, not giving handouts.
- In addition to her classroom duties, Jen is also the co-advisor for Student Council, and she encourages her students to experience the best that high school has to offer by being involved in the school community.
- A graduate of TR East herself, Jen Fazzini promotes her passion for TR every day. She is one of the most respected teachers in town, and she is most definitely a Teacher Who Rocks!
Custodial Appreciation Day!
We celebrated our custodians on Friday as part of our Custodial Appreciation Day! We would like to thank Mr. Nigel Arcia, Mr. Dave Costine, Mr. Joe Falcetrano, Mr. Larry Cruz, Mr. Brandy Clanton, Mrs. Val Brindley, Mr. Mike Yost, and Mr. Gerry Christensen for keeping our school clean and orderly for our students to learn! I know your job is not easy, but you do it every day with a smile and intent to make a difference!
We provided food, kind notes of thanks, and reduced their work burden on Friday to show them how much they are valued at East! Thank you all for making this day so special and to our custodians for taking care of us!
Legally Blonde
The Eastside Theatre Company proudly presents, Legally Blonde, the Musical on March 24th, 25th, and 26th at 7 pm and on the 27th at 2 pm in the Student Center! All guests are welcome to enjoy the efforts of our thespians! I loved the movie with Reese Witherspoon and am looking forward to seeing the Play on stage this year!
Parents, if you are interested in volunteering to support one or more evenings, please email Mrs. Melissa Reimertz at mreimertz@trschools.com! We would love your support!

New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA)
This March, schools across New Jersey will administer the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) in English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The assessments for English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics will be administered to students in grade 11 for the purpose of meeting the state graduation assessment requirement. The state-mandated New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment will be administered March 14 - March 17, 2022, with make-up dates from March 21 - March 24, 2022. All 11th grade students should communicate with their respective English teacher to receive their testing room location! Students need to bring a charged Chromebook each day to their testing location!
Senior Credit Recovery
Every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning April 4, 2022 through June 3, 2022, we will be offering an opportunity for seniors (free of charge) to recoup lost credit during the school year. Two sessions will be offered each day, one between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm and the other between 3:15 pm and 4:15 pm. Snacks will be provided during each session. This is a wonderful opportunity for seniors who are in danger of failing to recover credit and to ensure the walk with their peers on graduation day! Please contact your child's guidance counselor for further details!
