  • Please check ClassDojo frequently for pictures and important messages. There are a lot of important dates coming in the next few weeks!
  • Be sure to read for at least 20 minutes each night AND document it on the monthly reading log. This is vital to their development as readers and leaders. Students should be reading and be ready to take AR tests several times per week.
  • Friday is the last day to turn items in for the the Warm a Heart Holiday drive. Please send items if you are able to.
  • The Music program will be next Thursday, December 9th at 6:30.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! Can you believe it's already December?! We are almost halfway to 5th grade! The students came back ready to work after the break. We dove right into a new genre of poetry. The students have enjoyed discussing elements of poetry (lines, stanzas, rhythm, repetition, figurative language, and theme). It is always a joy to see the students get so creative with their thoughts and discussions.

  1. Please ensure your child is reading every single night. We have many students who are not making their AR goals and that is an easy and fun prize to strive for!
  2. We have a lot of testing and final grades happening in the next few weeks. Please ensure your child is here every single day! Every minute counts. Contact me and the office if they will not be here.
  3. I will be sending out Christmas Party information soon. Please look for it on Dojo!

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you so much for all you do! Let's finish this semester strong 🙂

4th Math--students have been super busy working on fractions and different types of graphs. We have been making stem and leaf plots, frequency charts, and dot plots. From now until the holiday break we will be reviewing many of the topics we have covered this semester just to make sure we don't forget things like decimals and how to use expanded notation.

4th Science---students have been learning about renewable and non-renewable resources and today we even talked about the advantages and disadvantages of Teslas. We had some great conversations.

5th Science---students have been discussing renewable and non-renewable resources as well as sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels. We, like the 4th graders, have had some very good discussions. Don't be surprised if your child comes home and wants to tell you about shale and limestone. 🙂

The next few weeks will be amazingly busy and chaotic, but there are so many fun things happening. 🙂

Thank you for sharing your children,

Mrs. Brown

  • We have started navigating through our fractions. The students can now see how important multiplication math facts are.
  • Please have your student keep on practicing multiplication math facts. A few minutes every night helps us solve equivalent fractions and getting fractions to their simplest form.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Gamez

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving Break! I know we all needed that break. I'm very glad to be back with your children though!

In reading we are doing a bit of review and going more in depth over fiction and the different story elements in fiction. Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on different types of fiction and traditional literature. I'm really looking forward to this and to using this to incorporate some holiday magic. They are also working on writing their realistic fiction pieces and are enjoying the writing process.

In Social Studies, we are learning more about westward expansion and leading up to the Civil War. This has been fun for them to learn about. We will be doing a little project over different holiday traditions in other countries.

A few reminders:

  • Please send your child to school with a water bottle every day.
  • Read, Read, Read. Please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes every night.
  • I sent home a spelling packet that is due on Tuesday, next week. Their spelling test is next Wednesday, 12/8/2021.
  • Please be on the lookout in DOJO for Christmas party sign ups.
  • We have school on Monday, the 13th, so please make sure your child attends.

Thank you!
