"Young people are not meant to become discouraged; they are meant to dream great things, to seek vast horizons, to aim higher, to take on the world, to accept challenges and to offer the best of themselves to the building of something better"
Pope Francis, Christus Vivit (Christ is Alive), 2019
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers in the OLC Community,
Sports Carnival Success!
Congratulations to each and everyone one of our OLC students participating and competing in last week's school faction carnival. There was a great sense of community and our students showed all of the school values, with enthusiastic dedication to their faction. The encouragement for each other during and after the carnival, was very warming and inspiring.
We have some extraordinarily talented athletes across many year levels at OLC. It was wonderful to see these students shine and also display humility and graciousness.
Huge thanks to our wonderful PE teacher Mrs Mandy Sinclair for her preparation and organisation. Her never-ending energy propelled the carnival through the day with efficiency and fun.
Kindy and Pre Kindy Program for 2024 - It's Official!
As you may have seen advertised already, OLC will begin 2024 with not only some new Early Childhood buildings, but also a new Kindy and Pre Kindy program.
Kindy 2024 will occur over 3 days - Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with two classes running simultaneously.
An optional 4th Kindy day is also on offer to the enrolled Kindy families which at this point will take place on Mondays. This will only occur if we have enough students for this 4th day option.
3 Year Old Kindy will be available on Wednesdays. This will be a full day program. Places are already very limited as there will be a maximum of only 20 students for Pre-Kindy. We are currently considering a second Pre - Kindy class running, possibly on the same day, due to the high demand we are already receiving.
Very exciting times ahead!
Open Classrooms - Record Numbers!
It was with great delight that we saw classrooms filled with parents last Wednesday evening. With our students proudly explaining their learning from the year, we had almost all year levels have almost 100% parent attendance. Amazing!
It was a highlight of my week to see so many smiling faces, parents, students and teachers included, as the precious interactions and loving encouragement was felt across the school.
Thank you OLC parents and teachers for your contribution to the evening. Our students are better learners and people when they are encouraged and connected to present and caring adults.
New Faces to the OLC Staff 2024
Although staffing for 2024 is not yet completed, we would like to congratulate and welcome some wonderful new teachers to OLC in 2024.
Ms Grace Anderson, Millie Charlton and Natalie Matthews will be joining the OLC team in 2024. We look forward to them meeting the OLC community next year.
Thank you and welcome back
I would like to thank relief teachers Carolyn Trowbridge (PPB) and Rebecca Richichi (Kindy) for their extended time at OLC this term.
Carolyn has been covering PPB on Tuesday to Thursdays while Mrs Birch has been in the Acting Assistant Principal Role and Rebecca has been in Kindy while Miss Horrocks is on long-service leave.
Thank you to you both for your commitment to the classes.
Great thanks to Courtney Minto for looking after everything in the technology space for us this term while Mrs Johnson has been on long-service leave. We have really appreciated Courtney’s support.
We are looking forward to Miss Horrocks and Mrs Johnson returning in Term 4.
Mrs Hegney's Arrival in Term 4
OLC warmly welcomes our newly appointed principal, Mrs Angela Hegney in Term 4 this year. Mrs Hegney is currently the Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes in Dardanup. She has already been in contact with OLC staff and has been working with the current OLC leadership team in various ways.
I am sure that many of our parents will meet Angela throughout the term.
I'd like to thank Mrs Amie Meyer and Mrs Julie Birch for their dedication and commitment in assisting me to lead the school this term. It has been a pleasure and privilege to do so.
Special thanks to our administration staff, Mrs Fran Marrell, Sandra O'Leary, Kaya Jecks, Jodie Spencer, Leah Riley for their wonderful thoughtfulness, expertise and humour this term.

Cultural Incursion
On Monday, the Year 4 cohort had a visit from Josh Whiteland. We learnt all about the 6 seasons and how it is currently Djilba. Djilba is often the coldest time of year with clear, cold nights. We worked as a team to tidy up and rebuild our Mia-Mia. The boys collected the branches, while the girls positioned them on the floor and weaved more through the roof. We participated in dances like the emu dance, honeybee dance and the kangaroo dance. We liked tapping sticks and listening to Josh play the didgeridoo while we danced.

OLC Little Seedlings' Day Out
Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us for a Little Seedlings outing in Bunbury. We had a fantastic time at the Play School concert going on an adventure with Humpty Dumpty and his friends. The presenters were very entertaining, singing all of our childhood favourites with gusto - 'Twinkle Twinkle', 'Walking in the City' and 'I'm a Little Teapot', just to name a few! After a little bit of warm up time a few of our Seedlings even made it to the front with their dancing shoes on.
Following the show, we made our way to Big Swamp playground for some lunch and a play. It warms my heart to see our children growing in comfort with each another and enjoying new experiences together. Now where are we off to next term?
Little Seedlings runs on Wednesdays from 9am. If you are interested in bringing your Pre-Kindy aged children please click on the link below and fill out your details. Next term we will return on Wed 18th October and run through until Wed 29th November. Come and meet us in the Kindy room for some craft, play and music.

The P&F Committee would like to extend a huge thankyou and well done to our Year 3 class reps and families. They organised, baked and fired up the bbq to provide students with a sausage sizzle lunch and treats for families at the sports carnival. I know the kids loved this lunch special on the day. Well done to Liz Wray, Juanita Fogarty and Kate Davies, with the help of the amazing year 3 volunteers, in raising $1350 towards the P&F.
