Third Grade AIM Update

Happy New Year! Today we started our PBL on ancient Greece by pretending we are opening our own time travel agencies. We started by thinking about appropriate agency names that will attract new customers to our time travel trips. We browsed through books on ancient Greece to inspire our thinking and eventually settled on some very creative names. The challenge for them was to create a name that sends a positive message to their target audience (would you really trust a travel agency with the name Poseidon in it)? We learned a little bit about how logos can send a message with the creative use of colors, font and design by looking at some recognizable logos including; FedEx (as an arrow in the middle of it), Baskin Robbins (has the number 31 built right in), and Goodwill (using the G as a smiley face) and then set about designing our own logos for our agency websites. We also took some time to do some “glamour” shots for the websites as well (FYI – these websites will be off of our google drive accounts so they won’t actually be “live” but will certainly have the same look and feel. In the upcoming weeks we will be exploring the geography and City –States of ancient Greece to begin planning our day trip packages. What I love about this unit is that it will have a healthy mix of research and technology as the website will require them to learn a lot of new skills.
