Safety Notification
Mountain View High School
9-10-21
Mountain View High School Families,
In keeping with our commitment to keep our parents and guardians informed, I want to share with you that school administration has been alerted to rumors that a planned protest is being organized at Mountain View today. The planned protest stems from concerns about reports and investigations around sexual assault/violence, including concerns about properly addressing cases by officials.
We are committed to maintaining a safe and orderly environment should a protest occur.
Students have a right to free speech and expressing their concerns as protected by the First Amendment. Students cannot be disruptive to the school day, however, or engage in activity that may be harmful to anyone at the school.
As a result of these rumors and anticipated activity, we have notified Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Law enforcement will work with administration to support our commitment to maintaining a safe and orderly environment while providing additional supervision and answering general questions.
In addressing the protester’s statements, MUSD has stringent protocol and processes for managing sexual assault allegations. Whenever a sexual assault/violence case or information is communicated to any staff member, MUSD officials are required by law to look into it. Depending on the nature of the incident and/or the location of the incident, we may turn the information over to local law enforcement agencies who take the lead. We continue to work with them until the investigation is closed.
At Mountain View and in the District, we take allegations of sexual assault very seriously. It is also our legal obligation related to Title IX policy. Any concern we have received related to sexual assault/violence has been promptly investigated. This school year, MUSD has not received any Title IX complaints.
Any individual, student or staff member is encouraged to report any potential cases of sexual assault, violence or discrimination to MUSD administration or law enforcement. More information on our Title IX policy and how to communicate this information with District officials is available on our website.
Please do not hesitate to contact school administration if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Todd Garelick
Principal, Mountain View High School
