MoASSP Board Update Dec. 7, 2018
KEEP CALM & EAT CANDY CANES
Message From Clark
This update is coming to you from Reston, Virginia. I flew in yesterday and will head back to KC late this evening. I was asked to serve on the NASSP State Executive Director Advisory Committee to represent Region 6. Both Jim and Phil served on the committee in the past. There are ten executive directors on the committee. We will meet again in May at the state executive directors professional development program, and in July at the NASSP National Leaders Conference. The committee is advisory, and they provide input to JoAnn Bartoletti, Executive Director and CEO of NASSP. NASSP pays all expenses including travel, lodging, and meals.
January Board Meeting Reminder
We will convene the MoASSP Board of Directors Meeting on January 9 at 10:00 and conclude by 1:30 January 10. MoASSP will pay mileage and lodging. Doug has reserved rooms for each of you on the evening of January 9 at Holiday Inn Executive Center. Wednesday evening, we will have dinner at CC's City Broiler, Columbia's most excellent restaurant. Jostens and John Glennon will provide the meal for us that evening. Let Doug know via email or text (573-489-2267) if you don't need a room or will not be joining us for dinner.

Executive Director's Evaluation
Earlier in the week, I sent Ed a link for the Executive Director's Evaluation form. Doug, Katy, Ginny, and I continue to use many of the features of our new website (StarChapter). One highlight is the ability to create anonymous surveys/evaluations that generate data in real time, charts, reports, etc. Ed will be sending you the link to be completed by January 4, 2019. Ed has administrative view rights as a survey manager to view results. This StarChapter feature provides us with a new tool to solicit feedback from our members, conference attendees, etc.
Meetings this Week
The State Board of Education met yesterday afternoon. Doug was in attendance. Both Doug and I participated in the School Administrator's Coalition Pre-Session meeting on Monday at the MCSA Education Center in Jeff City. Director of Legislative Advocacy for the Missouri Council of School Administrators, Scott Kimble, facilitated the meeting. Agenda items included the review of 2018 legislation and a preview of 2019. Each association provided an overview of their platforms. The Missouri General Session begins January 9. With the November election, there will be some changes in committee leadership.
AMBA & Horace Mann
We are close to announcing our partnership with Association Member Benefits Advisors (AMBA). The holdup is finalizing the URL that links to our website. The web link will point members for more information. This week, we resigned our partnership agreement with Horace Mann for 2019. Horace Mann will provide additional auto and personal property discounts for MoASSP members. We will promote this additional value-added benefit.
Reconnecting with Retired Principals
We are beginning to see an uptick with retired principals contacting our office to rejoin MoASSP. Here is communication that we send to each retired principal considering reconnecting with MoASSP.
Assistant Principal, Middle School, High School Principal of the Year Process
We officially submitted to NASSP Lauren Cumming as our Missouri Assistant Principal of the Year. Her application is strong and will represent MoASSP exceptionally well on the national level. NASSP opened the POY portal this week. Here is the communication we sent to each of our regional winners.
Missouri Scholars 100
The MoASSP office staff is preparing Missouri Scholars 100 materials to send out after we get back from Christmas break to each Missouri high school principal.
Niles Media
We are close in signing a partnership agreement with Niles Media Group. Our goal is to begin utilizing video first of the year.
On a Personal Note
With the sale of our KC home, we have scheduled move and closing for December 12-17. I will be away from the office a few days next week to pack, move, and close on our home. Karen and I are looking forward to our relocation to Columbia. Not sure where we are going to land yet. We have an executive rental through February.
