Focus on Algebra: Exponential FunctionsFebruary 910, 2016 Session #77560 This 2day workshop provides a functionbased approach to teaching Algebra, with particular focus on exponential functions using the NEW Algebra I TEKS. Participants will analyze lessons, tasks, and teacher moves to aid in improving classroom instruction and student learning. Numeracy Strategies for Secondary Mathematics March 2, 2016 Presented by Author and Consultant Pam Weber Harris! Based on strategies from Building Powerful Numeracy for Middle and High School Students by Pam Weber Harris, this training will use problem strings to help students construct powerful numerical relationships and connections that lead to success in higher mathematics. This training will focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies and strings with fractions as well as using ratio tables to help build students' numeracy. Session #77560
The Focus on Algebra series of teacher workshops focus on the content of first year algebra. In these workshops, teachers study a purposeful sequence of multiple entry algebra tasks including algebra problem strings, truly problematic situations, and math congresses. The study includes analysis of video of teachers and students, which facilitates a deep understanding of the math content, student strategies, and high leverage teacher moves.

TEA Supporting Information Documents K8 Supporting Information documents for grades K – 8 are currently available on the Project Share Gateway. The documents are arranged by the TEKS and provide further explanations of the information in the SidebySide TEKS Comparison documents. TEA SidebySide Documents for HS Mathematics SidebySide Comparison Documents for Algebra 1, Algebra II, Geometry, Math Models, Precalculus, and Advanced Quantitative Reasoning are currently available on the Project Share Gateway. Interactive Math Glossary App TEA’s Interactive Math Glossary is now available in the iTunes app store. The glossary is designed to help teachers explore and understand mathematics vocabulary used in the grades K–8 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Each glossary term is displayed in a fourquadrant Frayer Model. Go to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/interactivemathglossary/id1051404376?mt=8 to download.
