The FAST (Family Academic Support Team) will lead workshops during the 2016-2017 regarding the topic of A Growth Mindset. The curriculum provides powerful tools to help parents support their students in understanding that abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication. The meetings will be held during the third week of each month during the first hour of your student’s Learning Center time. We will hold our first session Monday, September 19th-Thursday, September 22nd.
Learning Lab will Open the Week of September 26th
The CVCS Learning Lab will not open until the week of September 26th due to NWEA Testing at CVCS.
Learning Coach Handbooks
The Learning Coach Handbooks are available electronically at http://cvcs.k12start.com. Direct links are provided below for the specific grade level. Handbooks will be passed out at the Learning Center in the near future.
Back to School Skate

CVCS Annual Back to School Skating Party
Friday, September 30th from NOON to 2:30pm
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and Family Entertainment Center, 1219 W. 76th St.
Pay $5 ahead of time in the main office, this includes admission and skate rental
Pay at the door the day of the party, the cost will be $5.50 for admission and skate rental
*Learning Coaches and siblings who are not skating are not required to pay.

If you are experiencing difficulties with the K12 systems, please click on the link for access to the K12 Help website, https://www.help.k12.com. You will be able to find a variety of topics to support issues you may be experiencing as well as have the option to join a Customer Service Office Hours session (2nd bullet down on the right side of webpage). During the week of September 12th the open office sessions will take place on Monday and Wednesday from 8am-NOON and 1PM-5PM Eastern Time.
Battle of the Books (4th-8th grade)
Are you a student in 4-8th Grades that loves to read? Do you like to talk about books? Do you like a little friendly competition? Then consider joining the Chicago Virtual Charter School’s CPS Battle of the Books team!
You are required to read 4 books (by March 1st) from a pre-determined list, write 10 questions about each book read, and regularly attend virtual Battle of the Books meetings. Six students from 4-6th Grades, and six students from 7th and 8th Grades will be selected to represent CVCS at the city wide competition next spring.
Please email Kary Batchelder, teacher, by Friday, September 23rd if you are interested in joining the team, and for further information. Book lists and meeting information will be forwarded to those who express interest in the team.
