Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy
Weekly Newsletter: October 17th-21st
This was another week full of exiting opportunities here at York! Our 7th grade students went to the FL Aquarium and participated in a Classification lab activity in addition to visiting the exhibits. It was fun to go behind the scenes into the research labs and learn from the Aquarium staff.
The construction of our playgrounds and covered shade tents over the basketball courts have made great progress this week. We are excited to have our recess facilities underway!
Today was combined "Pink Out York" for breast cancer awareness and "Raise the Flags" for Bucs spirit day. One of our students operated a drone to fly over our school to take some photos and videos of our school spirit to send to Captain Fear himself at the Bucs headquarters.
We are excited to cheer on our Science Olympians on Saturday at MOSI. Representatives from kindergarten through fifth grade will be participating and we are so proud of their hard work to get there!
Next Thursday night (10/27) from 5:30-7:30pm the FL Aquarium is hosting STEMtastic, an event to showcase the STEM schools of Hillsborough County. If you have friends interested in joining the York family, please let them know to check out STEMtastic and visit the York Innovation Academy table. Parents can apply for choice that evening from the event.
A note from heath services
School Health Services personnel will be providing height, weight, and vision (eye) screening for students in kindergarten, first, and third grade on October 27th. These screenings are mandated by State law in Florida Code 64F06.003.
If your child fails their vision screening, a referral letter will be sent home to you from the Registered Nurse
(Jennifer Butler). Please take the referral letter to your eye care provider to fill out
the form and return to the School Nurse. If you do not want your child to participate in these screenings, email jennifera.butler@hcps.net with your information, student's name, and teacher.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Jennifer Butler RN, BSN

Mrs. Jinks
Hi York Families! My name is Jaime Jinks. I moved here from CT in the summer of 2021. In CT, I taught Pre-K for 13 years. I went to school at Eastern CT State University. My family and I moved down to FL because we are summer people! I have 5 children, a 19 year old (Michael), twin 16 year olds (Justin & Zachary), an 8 year old (Brooklyn), and a 7 year old (Landon). Brooklyn is in 4th and Landon is in 2nd and will be attending York! We live in Waterset, and we love the area! Last year, I substituted at Doby, just so my family and I could transition here, and now I'm teaching Kindergarten at York, and absolutely love it! I love spending time with family, reading, going to the beach, going to church, boating, and swimming in the pool. We love to be outside! I'm so excited to meet more people and for this year at York!
