Modified Start of School II News
Rolland-Warner 6/7 Campus - Sept 4
Stevens Scribbles
Finally the start is upon us! I know we are all extremely excited to see the students!
Many students forget their passwords over the summer break for their Lapeer Google accounts. To remedy this situation for our 6-12 grade students we are resetting their passwords at 8pm on Sunday night. The username to these accounts are firstinitiallastnamegraduationyear@students.lapeerschools.org (for example mine would be wstevens2026@students.lapeerschools.org). The password to log back in will be Lightning#####, where the ##### is their student ID. They will be prompted to set a new password on their login, please set this as something easily remembered and have them record this in a safe location that they can access at home or school.
Unfortunately, part of the secondary world (6-12 grade) are schedule changes after the schedules have been handed out. Many different scenarios play out in the weeks prior to school and the first weeks of school, with this year being no different from the past in respect and yet even more trying on our counselors with schedules with the number of students participating in our Lapeer Virtual rather than traditional. This will be the first time, but certainly not the last, that our 6th grade students are faced with this. I ask that you have the conversation at home and check PowerSchool over the long weekend to view their schedule as it may have changed. No worries the entire staff is here to help them go through their day and get them to the correct location which will be made easier this year with a limited population here each day! New schedules will be printed for them in the morning of their day of attendance and be handed out in the hallway. I highly recommend taking a picture of the schedule so they have with them at all times and easily accessible on their smart phone (if they have one)!
Due to the limited time the teachers have with the students on their day of face-to-face instruction, students are not required to use the lockers and can carry their backpack to class. This will assist our 6th graders not only from the stress of opening the locker but save precious time for teachers to build relationships and prepare them for the online environment.
Finally, I am requesting that if your student has a electronic device such as Chromebook, tablet, or laptop, they bring that device with them for the day. This will ensure we have enough devices throughout the week and assist in the required cleaning of the technology we pass out.

Supporting Those Without Home Internet
September 14-Oct 2 we are going to follow the below schedule, which allows for parents to drop students off to either sit in the cafe with their own technology or district borrowed technology (recommended so they can download the lessons for the week) OR computer labs. Students may sign up for multiple blocks per week, but must call back each week to sign-up. Students must leave with parent after each block to allow for disinfecting of the spaces. Students must abide by all student handbook expectations and wear a mask at all times or will negate the ability to attend these sections. All sign-ups will go through our Dean of Students, Mr. Kent Meister, and can be reached at (810) 538-2334.

On-Boarding - Week of Sept 8-11
This one day is going to offer our staff many opportunities to set expectations, build rapport and disseminate vital information to students to ensure they have a successful transition to online and the rest of the year, no matter the format.
Being students are only in the building for one day, they are going to take their backpacks with them from class to class as to not waste our precious limited time with the students trying to open lockers. Students that completed the technology forms at Schedule Pick-up will also be bringing home a Chromebook with them the day they attend.
Students that have their own technology are encouraged to bring with them for the day to limit devices needing cleaning. If they do not, they will utilize the same Chromebook throughout the day and turn into their 6th hour teacher.

Masks Required
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
- Try wearing the mask at home first! Some masks are just more comfortable than others, have the students try the masks at home. The first day is going to be a long day and you don't want to wear a mask that hurts your ears all day!
- Sending multiple masks. As the masks get moist from our breathing, the student may feel much better with a new dry mask!
- Send facial wipes in student's backpack. Even with our air conditioning, wearing a mask will cause student's to sweat. Certainly not the end of the world, however, using a facial wipe in the middle of the day maybe just what the student needs to feel fresh again.
