Staff Spotlight

Karen Stevens

This week we spotlight Karen Stevens, Mercury Language Arts teacher. Karen has been with us since the very first days!

Karen shares....

I have been married 30 years to my husband Chris. We have raised three sons together. Keith is 30, Nick is 28, and Ryan is 27. I have 1 granddaughter who will be 5 next month and is the joy of my life. My oldest son is in the Army and currently stationed in Germany and has survived deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. My prayers go out to anyone who still has loved ones in Afghanistan.
After having worked with elementary students for 20 years, I find high school students both challenging and rewarding. I am thrilled with the level of integrity and inquiry of our students. I am delighted with the enthusiasm of the students who have joined the book club and am happy to see the love of reading still alive. I look forward to a gratifying year.

Favorite saying: “I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”
― William Penn

Thank you Karen for all that you do!

Mercury Sunshine!

We are thinking of:

  • Dawn Miller after the loss of her sweet dog on Thursday. Pets are most definitely family too - we are so very sorry Dawn.

Let me know of any concerns or celebrations within our Mercury family!

Club Corner

Art clubs have been getting things rolling with portrait drawings! Portrait drawing is a skill that can be started at any age and practiced at different levels of difficulty throughout one's life. Drawing self portraits is excellent practice in using line, shape, and proportion in drawing, while demonstrating your own creative expression. Mercury students have shown remarkable artistic talent this week! We are all looking forward to a great year of art-making!

Here is a portrait by MS Art Club member Alyssa Herron!

Why aren't you doing very well in history?

Because the teacher keeps asking about things that happened before I was born!
