Character Counts Week

Next week BMS will celebrate Character Counts week! Each day we will have a designated color to wear, and on September 22 BMS will join over 62,000 groups in 96 countries celebrating Character Day. During lunch, on Character Day, students will have the opportunity to receive a bag of popcorn for writing a short message on how they display the different Character Pillars. Each table will be assigned a specific pillar to write about and their responses will be displayed around the building. We will also have some additional drawings during lunch for students who chose to participate by wearing the appropriate color for the day.

Monday - Wear Purple for Citizenship

Tuesday - Wear Green for Responsibility

Wednesday - Wear Orange for Fairness

Thursday - Wear Yellow for Respect

Friday - Wear Blue for Trustworthy

iPad Updates

Students will have the opportunity to take iPads home beginning on September 26th. If needed, chargers will be provided to your student. Please understand that we have one charger per iPad. So, if your student brings the iPad home with a charger, they are responsible for charging their iPad in the evening.

From The Counseling Center

From the Counseling Center:

So what is SSL (Student Service Learning)?

Service Learning is a teaching method that combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning.

Students must earn 75 hours of service for Graduation.

Students earn 15 hours in each of four grades in which activities are included in the curriculum:

6th grade Science

7th grade Social Studies

8th grade English Language Arts

10th grade Life Skills

In addition to these 60 hours, students must earn 15 hours undertaking independent projects. Independent hours can be a student-designed project that benefits the community OR served with a community-based agency or organization which partners with WCPS. To assure the plan meets Maryland guidelines, student-designed projects must be pre-approved by the school based coordinator, which is Mrs. Ganoe or Mrs. McDermott. Record cards should be submitted to the school coordinator in the same calendar year as the hours are earned. Students may begin working on independent project during 8th grade.

If you have further questions about SSL, please come see us in the counseling center!

Early Dismissals

Student safety is extremely important. Throughout the day we realize students will need to leave for appointments. Please take the time to review your ParentVue account to review who is allowed to pick your student up from school. We can only dismiss students to adults who are listed on the family information form. Also, please be aware that we will ask for a form of identification when you arrive . Please understand that this process is for the safety of the student. If you need to make any edits for authorized contact or pickup please contact our front office.
