Spotlight On.....Ms. DePaul's Music Classroom!
Ms. DePaul's favorite thing about teaching Music is..... seeing joy on children's faces when they have learned something new, accomplished a seemingly impossible task or were simply delighted about learning a new music game in class! Music should be be fun, challenging and JOYFUL!
Right now in Music we are working on.... so many different things! Here are some songs/activities from each grade level;
Kindergarten: "Apple Tree" - Playing the game, tracking steady beat and playing simple bordun while we sing
First Grade: "Naughty Kitty Cat" - Playing the game, playing a broken bordun while we sing and learning about rests (silence in music)
Second Grade: "Rhythmic Notation" - reading writing and composing with quarter notes, eighth notes and quarters rests
Third Grade: "Play Parties!" Songs, games and dance from Pioneer Days
Fourth Grade: "Zimbabwean Marimba Music" - Listening, analyzing, moving. Playing the melody and supporting parts on the xylophones.
Fifth Grade: "Mozart" - We are analyzing a Mozart Sonata and adding patterns using Spalding high bounce balls to show the changes in FORM throughout the piece.
So far this year, students in Music have really enjoyed.... "Iconic Notation" Using songs from ENCANTO, students read iconic notation to play along with their BOOMWHACKERS!
Ms. DePaul has been teaching at Slate Hill for 30 years!!!
Ukulele Club Virtual Concert!
Fourth Graders met once a week during their recess to learn how to play ukulele! Enjoy!
