Memorial Day

Big picture

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2022 will occur on Monday, May 30.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.

Independence Day

Big picture

Also called the Fourth of July, Independence Day marks the historic date in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress. The written declaration stated that the American colonies were tired of being ruled by Great Britain. They wanted to become their own country.

Your student is learning language and content at the same time. In order to do both effectively, they may need additional help from an educator. The CLDE Office pays educators across the district to provide tutoring. Not all schools offer tutoring, Please check with the CLDE teacher in your child's school to see if tutoring is available.

The Skirted Heifer

The Skirted Heifer has some of the best burgers in town. You can go with their traditional skirted heifer burger, which has an enormous helping of cheese added to it or you can try one of their specialty burgers. I’m fond of the hangover burger myself with an addition of Pueblo green chilies to a patty with egg, cream cheese, bacon and bloody Mary sauce.

They’ve also just added a rewards program so you can get points for shopping with them and earn free treats like an ice cream sandwich on your birthday.
