Growth Plans
Thank you all for having your growth plans turned in by September 8th! We now need to determine your baseline score. Please look at the rubrics below to determine where you feel you are on this standard. We ask that you pop in during your plan time at some point this week, September 18-22, so we can discuss this quickly and place the baseline score for your growth plans.
Protecting Instructional Time
It is important to protect instructional time throughout the day. We are working to reduce building wide disruptions in order to help students remain focused on their academic work. With that, we also need for all staff members to make a conscious effort to protect student’s instructional time by being on time to pick up your students from lunch, recess and specials. Here is a way to think about it:
5 minutes late to recess daily = 25 minutes a week of missed instructional time = 100 minutes a month of missed instructional time = approximately 850 minutes/14 hours of missed instructional time for the school year
This was looking at just being 5 minutes late to recess. Think of the instructional time missed if you are late picking up your students from lunch, recess and specials daily! We always hear that we need more time. Staying on schedule will not only protect your student’s instructional time, but also keep from cutting into others plan times. Please make a conscious effort to always be on time to pick up your students!
Punishments vs Consequences
First, we want to thank everyone for placing such thoughtful input into your reflections from PD on September 5th. We do truly value everyone’s thoughts and opinions and use it to plan future professional development. One thing that we do want to clarify from our workshop on Punishment vs. Consequences is that we are working to give students logical consequences and moving away from traditional punishments such as loss of recess because a student was talking. Over the next few staff updates, we are going to add in some articles that might help to clarify this in action. We can then use some time during each PLC to discuss this further. Linked below is an article on responsive classroom strategies.

Weatherbug - Get the app, accessing lessons
The following are a few steps you should take so your school can start receiving immediate benefits through the WeatherBug Schools Program. The information listed below should be kept for future use/reference. 1) WeatherBug Achieve To register as a teacher and access WeatherBug Achieve, please complete the following steps: • Go to the following link to watch WeatherBug Achieve - A Five Minute Introduction: http://weather.weatherbug.com/weather-education/customerintro/wba_customerintro.htm • After viewing the introduction, you will be directed to the WeatherBug Achieve Login page(http://achieve.weatherbug.com). Click on “Enter the Classroom.” Bookmark this page as appropriate. • You will see two login areas; one for teachers and one for students. • Click on "Register Online" (left corner, under Teacher Login). • Fill out the form using the School Key exactly as it is shown below: SCHOOL KEY CODE: 5787-96033887 Document your Username and Password in a safe place. You are now ready to begin using WeatherBug Achieve! Upon logging in, you will notice the data is showing from another location. That is because your weather station and/or camera is not online yet. The OWC allows you to turn your school website into the source of local weather information for students, teachers, parents, and the entire community. OWC presents weather information from your new tracking station on your school’s website. The tool also includes additional weather-related information for the local area including; radar and satellite maps, camera time lapses, and forecasts. You can also access your historical weather data from your school’s OWC. Online Weather Center URL: http://weather.weatherbug.com/weather-safety/online-weather-center/OnlineWeatherCenter.aspx?aid=6756 Note: Please email us your school logo to members@earthnetworks.com so that we can embed it into your customized OWC site.
