Tyler's Tech Tips
Issue # 4 - January 2016
Welcome Back!
I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas Break. I just want to remind you that I am always available for any instructional technology needs for the 2016 year. I have scheduled visits to each local district in the month of January, which you will see to the right. If any of these dates do not work for you, remember that I am more than willing to make a trip to your district on a non-scheduled day to help with your tech needs. Just email me at tylerl@huronisd.org and let me know of your request. I look forward to working with you in this new year!
YouTube Me PD
Don't forget to sign up for a crash course PD on YouTube coming this March. This PD will give you ideas on how to use YouTube, how to create your own channel, how to create and upload your own videos, and how to use pre-made videos for your flipped classroom. To sign up, click here.

Google Keep - My Most Used App
If you are looking for a great way to jot down notes or checklists and then share them with anyone, Google Keep is your go-to tool. I had first used Google Keep over a year ago in its most basic form, but it has evolved a lot into a great tool that can be used across device platforms. To read more about Google Keep, check out my blog post about it here.
Block Posters
Everyone loves pictures, especially large pictures, but we don't like to pay for them. Thankfully, there is a loophole. Block Posters is a free site that lets you upload your own images and turn it into any size wall poster. This site provides a much easier process than using Excel. I had to try it out and printed off a 44 inch x 25 inch poster. To read more, check out my blog by clicking here.
Organizing your Chrome Bookmark Bar
As most of you know, I am a Google advocate so it only make sense to use their Chrome internet browser. This little tidbit will help you take that long cluttered bookmark bar and condense it to only favicons (the icons of your favorite sites). To do this, follow the steps below, or watch the 2 minuted video embedded below. To read more, click here.
Excel Surveys
I write a lot about Google, but this one goes out to all of you Microsoft users. Similar to Google Forms, Microsoft has what they call Excel Surveys. Similar in concept but not as complex. To see the process on how to create a Excel Survey click here to access my blog.
IPEVO Whiteboard App
Screen-casting tools are a hot topic for teachers and students in our area. A year ago, I would have recommended EDUcreations, Showme, and even Explain Everything, but there is a new app in town that I like even better for Apple or Samsung devices.
IPEVO Whiteboard is my new favorite. With fewer bells and whistles, its simplicity is what teachers love. Here is the best part....there are no usernames, logins, passwords, it is free, etc. All students have to do is open the app, create a screen-cast, and it will automatically save to their camera roll.
