"Supporting Our Efforts"
As many of you know, our campus was rated an “F” by the Texas Education Agency for our performance on STAAR last school year, even though we made a lot of growth. As a result, we have targeted goals that we are confident we can meet with YOUR support. At Bammel Middle School, we believe that every scholar can achieve at high levels, and we are committed to providing our scholars with the help they need to be successful.
Using varied data sources, your scholar has been identified as one who will benefit from participating in our Scholars With A Goal (SWAG) Saturday School. During SWAG Saturday School, teachers will work with your scholar in a small group setting on targeted TEKS. We are in the process of ordering SWAG bags for our scholars and we will have incentives for scholars who consistently attend.
Scholars will have an opportunity to eat a “Fuel 2 Go” breakfast beginning at 7:45 am and lunch at 12:00 pm. These meals are provided free of charge by the Spring ISD Child Nutrition Department. In addition, buses will be provided to transport scholars to and from school. The buses will pick up and drop off scholars at the elementary school closest to your home. If there is no school near your home, there may be a bus stop in your neighborhood. Your scholar should be at the closest elementary school by 7:10 am.
Our SWAG Saturday dates are: January 25, February 1, 8, 22, and 29, March 21 and 28, April 4, 18, and 25, and May 2 and 9 from 7:45 am – 12:30 pm. Buses will leave campus at 12:20 pm.
Given that we have planned for EVERYTHING, we only need YOUR help with making sure your scholar attends.
Remember, "We are BMS... Brave. Motivated. Successful. AND We are #UNSTOPPABLE!"

Building Students' Note-taking Skills:
AVID’s focused note-taking process has five phases:
- Taking notes
- Processing notes
- Connecting Thinking
- Summarizing and Reflecting on Learning
- Applying Learning
It is important to note that applying learning is the last phase of the process. It is essential that it informs the first phase, as the note-taking format should be shaped by the note-taking purpose. When this is done, note-taking becomes a powerful and portable learning tool your student can carry with them throughout their educational experience.

Emotions in the “Middle”
Moody, private, self-conscious…if this sounds like your tween, you’re not alone. At this age, their body and emotions are changing rapidly. Here are ways to help them cope.
Managing moods. Physical growth and worries about friends, sports, and schoolwork can cause moodiness. Let your child know you’re available to talk. A quiet statement, such as “I remember what it feels like not to be asked to join a team,” can invite them to open up about what’s bothering them.
Finding privacy. It’s natural for your middle schooler to want some time to themselves. For example, they might close their bedroom door or walk outside to take a phone call. Show them that you respect their growing need for privacy by giving them space.
Fitting in. Many middle graders feel self-conscious. Being part of a group of people who share their interests can help your youngster focus on their strengths and feel more confident. Encourage them to participate in at least one activity, perhaps basketball, dance team, student government, or campus club.
If you notice that your teenager’s mood swings are lasting longer than a couple of days, reach out to their school counselor and/or their pediatrician.
