Authorization Form to Administer BinaxNow Antigen Test
We are happy to announce that District 103 is authorized to administer the BinaxNow COIVD-19 antigen test for students and staff once we are back to in-person learning. This nasal swab antigen test is a rapid test designed to determine if symptomatic individuals have COVID-19. The ability of the district to administer testing in school provides yet another tool for us to keep our students and staff safer while school is open.
This simple procedure requires a nasal swab (conducted at the front of the nose, not the deep swab to the sinus cavity) with a result available in 15-minutes. All results will be shared directly with the family as well as the Illinois Department of Health. Positive results will be reported to the Lake County Health Department for contact tracing.
A positive result means that the individual has COVID-19 and needs to be seen by their physician for further evaluation and treatment. If an individual has COVID-19 like symptoms and has a negative test result, the individual will still need to remain at home until cleared to return to school by a physician. Families are encouraged to follow up with a physician regarding any test result, whether negative or positive.
This is an opportunity to receive an antigen test and give you more information to discuss with your family's physician as well as provide information to school if we need to take further mitigation actions if a student tests positive for COVID-19. In order to have your child tested, we require families to electronically sign a permission waiver for our school nurses to conduct the testing. The waiver can be found in your Unified Classroom account. Please view this short video on how to access this waiver.
Please complete the waiver by Friday, January 15.
As always, thank you for your partnership and support as we raise our Leaders in Learning.
All the best,
Scott Warren, Ed.D.
