Mia Crumbley, Social Studies
Ms. Crumbley has been teaching 6th grade Social Studies at Coastal Middle School for 20 years. This year she will complete her 29th year educating children. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Armstrong State College, a Master of Education degree in Middle Grades Education with emphasis in Social Studies and Science from Georgia Southern University. Additional certifications include: Gifted, IB, and Teacher Support Specialist. She also fills the role of team leader for the Dignitaries, serves on the Emergency Support Team and organizes the Geography Bee for CMS. She has two children that are former CMS students. Her son, Ben, has just returned home after completing 6 years of service in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Engineering Tech. Catherine, her daughter, has completed her undergraduate from UGA and GSU and will be leaving this year to go to graduate School at College of St. Mary’s in Nebraska majoring in Occupational Therapy. She enjoys spending time with my children and friend, reading, cooking, gardening, boating, and UGA football Go DAWGS!

Kathryn Sukkestad - Science
Kathryn is a 6th Grade Science Educator who loves teaching and has been teaching in The Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) for 14 years. Kathryn has taught in the high school science classroom setting for 12 years and at the middle school level for two years. She has taught Biology, Environmental Science, Advanced Placement (A.P.) Environmental Science, Oceanography, Physical Science, Chemistry I, Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry. She graduated from Georgia Southern University (formerly known as Armstrong Atlantic State University) in the fall of 1993 with a Baccalaureate Degree in Biology along with a minor concentration in Chemistry. She then worked as a fisheries/water quality technician on the Savannah River for the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry at the University of Georgia. From there, Kathryn went on to become a wildlife/fisheries biologist at Fort Stewart Fish and Wildlife Environmental and Natural Resources Division through an internship via the Oakridge Institute of Science and Education (O.R.I.S.E). After completing her internship with O.R.I.S.E., Kathryn was hired on permanently at Fort Stewart Fish and Wildlife as a fisheries/wildlife technician, and then was promoted to a fisheries biologist and Chief of the Fisheries Branch position at Fort Stewart. Kathryn then went on to complete a Master of Science in Marine Science Program of study at Savannah State University in 2005. Next, she went on to teach at Oatland Island Education Center, and then was invited to move into the High School Science Classroom by SCCPSS. From there, Kathryn went back to obtain certification in Science Education (Grades 6-12) at the Graduate level at Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2010. Kathryn enjoys exploring the outdoors and loves spending time in the coastal environment with her family. Kathryn has a husband of 25 years and one daughter, Sophia, who recently graduated in spring 2020 from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Baccalaureate of Science in Biology with research option and with a certificate in bio-molecular technology with high honors, Magna Cum Laude status.
