Message from Outgoing Board Chair, Lourdes Ada

To the IP Community,

I am pleased to share with you that the IP Board of Directors, has elected Lisa Russell to succeed me, as the new Board Chair. I am excited about the new opportunities that Lisa will bring. She has been an energetic member of the IP Board for several years, and is a dedicated teacher, both in her professional work and at Iskwelahang Pilipino. She is keen and forward-driven in pursuing the foundational mission and goals of IP.

Lisa will be strongly supported by Christine Steltzer as Vice Chair, Dmitry Lev in the role of Treasurer, and Erica Stearns, who will continue her role as Board Secretary. As announced at the annual parents meeting, we welcomed two new members to the board last Spring -- Gregory Halloran and Joanna Liwanag. Over the summer, Marijo Fadrigalan, our former Treasurer, stepped down to dedicate herself fully to dance. We are deeply thankful for Marijo’s service on the board, and so happy to see your renewed commitment to your first love, folk dance! We are also grateful to returning Board member, Raymond Janairo, who recently joined the board to fulfill the remainder of Marijo’s term.

Please join me in welcoming and supporting our new leaders for IP.

I want to briefly acknowledge several outcomes from my stint as Board Chair. First, I was pleased to establish the consistent implementation of CORI registrations, which held standard accountability to secure the safety of our students. This was an important priority of mine beginning with my term as Board Secretary prior to becoming Chair. With the help of our Communications and Technology Task Force, IP was able to streamline our IP web page, launch a public Facebook page, and gain greater visibility online through “search engine optimization.” In a world like no other, during the Covid Pandemic, the IP Board, along with Myra Liwanag, the Executive Director, and our amazing team of volunteers worked tirelessly to smoothly deliver an innovative, yet traditional, online IP experience for the students and the IP community.

Given the open doors that the new leadership will bring, I am honored to continue serving for another term as a Board member, and will be a staunch supporter of the goals of Iskwelahang Pilipino, especially as we move forward to our 46th year in operation.

I am sincerely grateful that I had the chance to serve the community as a board officer and am excited to continue my service as a Board member moving IP forward!

Best,

Lourdes Ada
