Summer News in a Flash
Enjoy the Summer
News for Next Year
Greetings! I hope this summer is providing your family a lot of fun and memories. With the start of school approximately 15 days away East is working hard to ensure your student’s first day is a great one! As we prepare for the 2018-2019 school year we felt it is important to express our commitment to you and your student, as well as some general information for the remainder of the summer and the beginning of next year.
At East we are committed to providing every student with a first class education. This education is possible because of our focus on creating a safe learning environment, teaching a rigorous curriculum, and building meaningful relationships between students and teachers. These commitments provide an atmosphere that is perfect for maximizing your student’s greatest potential. The staff at East commit endless hours to developing classroom experiences needed for your student to be successful in high school, college, work, and life. The foundation of these commitments stems from three big ideas our staff embraces to ensure your student’s success at FTMS East:
· Learning is the fundamental purpose of our school and therefore we are willing to continually evaluate daily practices to better impact your students learning.
· We are committed to working together to help achieve our collective purpose. As a result, we will cultivate a positive, collaborative culture to ensure high performing student success.
· Our success is based on results rather than intentions. We will use relevant data to ensure your student’s education is continually improving.
We know a student’s middle school years can be a life-changing experience and that is why it is imperative that all adults be actively involved to ensure their success. The partnership between the school and the home is a crucial component. Our successes depend on a successful partnership between students, staff, families, and community. We place a high value on parent involvement, parent and teacher collaboration, and open communication by all parties. Committing to these processes helps ensure the greatest success for your student throughout the year.
As you prepare to navigate the 2018-2019 school year, we challenge our parents to push your students towards developing a greater sense of responsibility, a commitment to excellence, and the grit needed to be successful in the learning process. These commitments will help your student better prepare for academic excellence and learning! We believe Franklin Township Middle School East is a great place to learn, and we hope your 2018-2019 school year is outstanding!

Meet the New Teachers at FTMS East
New Math Teacher: Ms. Jacqueline Settles
New Social Studies Teacher: Mr. Andrew Roets
New Science Teacher: Mrs. Maureen Morgan
Hello! My name is Maureen Morgan. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Education at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and my masters at IUPUI. I have been teaching middle school science for 13 years, and I am so excited to be joining the East family to continue my career in teaching. My family recently moved into FTCSC school district, and I am so please to be teaching in the community where I now live.
I moved down to Indianapolis in 2005 for teaching. I have been involved in coaching middle school athletics over the years but have taken a break to focus on my two young boys. When I get a moment to myself (which is rare!) I love to settle into a good book. I also enjoy being outside playing with my family, whether it is sunny or snowing.
New ELA Teacher: Ms. Amber May
My name is Amber May and I have grown up in Franklin Township my whole life. After graduating from Franklin Central in 2013, I went on to Franklin College where I pursued a career in elementary education. While there I played basketball and was involved in Riley Dance Marathon. This will be my second year of teaching. I spent the last year in Mooresville teaching 5th grade. I am so excited to be joining the East family and moving on to teach 6/7 graders! Although I attended West myself I’m excited to start saying “East is Beast”! I'm Looking forward to an awesome year!
New ELA Teacher: Mrs. KatieVescovo
New ELA Teacher: Ms. Kylee Harms
Hello! My name is Kylee Harms and I am so excited to be joining the Franklin Township Middle School East family this year!
I recently moved to Indianapolis. Originally, I am from Iowa. I attended college at Iowa State University (Go Cyclones!) and had the incredible opportunity to do one of my student teaching experiences in Rome, Italy. After graduating I moved to St. Louis, Missouri to begin my teaching career. There, I taught 5th grade for a year and then 7th grade ELA. Now, I am in Indianapolis starting a new adventure.
Outside of teaching, I can be found lost in a book with an iced coffee in hand. I also enjoy exploring parks, going to Target for things I don’t need, and running. In February, my goal is to run a half marathon at Disney World!
I cannot wait to start this new journey at East as a Flash!
Transportation News
Welcome to another great year with Franklin Township Community School Corporation! You will find bus stop location and time at the FTCSC Transportation website – www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/transportation. In the black box in the middle of the page there is a tab for Bus Route Information, there will be a link to the routing software. Click on the link https://vtweb.tyler.com/FRANKLINTOWNSHIP/elinkrp/search.aspx . The select the student grade, enter the address and click on “Find school/Transportation. You will be able to check your student’s bus number, bus stop location and pick up/drop off times. We recommend checking the website for changes the night before school begins. Please keep in mind that these times are still subject to change even after school starts, due to changing enrollment.
There are a few items pertinent to the success of your child riding a FTCSC school bus. First and foremost is to be at the designated bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled bus stop times. Please recognize the bus drivers may be a few minutes late as we start back to school. Learning the routes and traffic patterns can delay route times. Your child can expect to be assigned to a specific seat that is subject to changes as needed. These issues can delay your students’ afternoon arrival times until the routine is established.
FTCSC’s goal is to provide a safe and secure experience for our students. In order to do this, we need to ensure that all students will be picked up and dropped off at a consistent location. If your child will not be needing the bus service for the 2018-2019 school year, please send us an email at transportation transportation@FTCSC.k12.in.us with the name and grade of your student. This allows FTCSC to maximize bus capacity and routing efficiencies. Also, we do not offer bus passes. Please do not send notes to the school, give notes to the drivers, or contact the transportation office with requested changes to pick ups or drop offs. If you have a permanent change to your pick-up and drop-off location please complete the Alt. AM/PM Transportation Pick- Up/Drop-Off form located on the Transportation Webpage. This form must be filled out each school year. Forms require 5 days to process; those received after July 25th will not be processed by the first day of school. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
