Optional Masking begins Monday, February 28

This afternoon you received an email from superintendent Dr. Zito about House Bill 5047 (signed into law on February 15, 2022), which ends the state-level mandate for masks to be worn in schools, beginning on Monday, February 28, 2022.

This decision includes our Bright Beginnings program as well as the K-12 student population. We have received some phone calls asking for clarification on this matter. All students who attend Stevens School will have the choice to wear a mask during school hours, and all students are still required to wear a mask on school buses at this time. Please put a couple of masks in your child's backpack to avoid panic at the end of a school day, if they cannot locate their mask.

Every day on the announcements students are reminded that at Stevens School, we respect ourselves, we respect each other, and we respect our school. I know that our students will respect each other when it comes to mask wearing. This week we saw them do so for recess. Dr. Zito clearly stated at last night's meeting that teachers will not be monitoring mask wearing. Please speak to your child about your families decision over the weekend.
