The Siegrist Star
Week of October 16 , 2023
Good Afternoon Siegrist Families!
This week we had an opportunity to celebrate being a Platte County Pirate!
With everyday being a special spirit day, all students and staff joined in on Homecoming Spirit week. This week not only did we bring spirit in supporting our favorite Pirate Football team, we also had an opportunity to celebrate being a Siegrist Pirate.
Our theme for the year is Building Excellence. Everyone within our school community has been building with a One Word. These words have been selected by each individual in supporting them to have their best year ever. Students have found that finding and identifying their one word has been as important as the word itself. No matter what the word is that was personally chosen, the power comes from once they know their word and how they use it to fuel themselves to do their best and work daily to keep getting better, in meeting personal goals. I encourage everyone to take a moment to ask your child what they love about their word? What does it mean to them? How are they using it daily at school and at home?
Thank you for always supporting us as we continue to build at Siegrist!
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

5th Grade Science Experiment
In Mrs. Renick’s 5th grade science classes, students have been learning about the Engineering Design Process. They were challenged with an experiment called Mission To Mars, where they had to use the process to design a parachute that would stay in the air for 5 seconds and safely land their astronaut!
They brainstormed, created a prototype, tested their prototype, collected data, and iterated as needed until they selected their most promising solution. Then, went outside to test their final parachutes!
Way to show hard work and perseverance, 5th grade!

Help Your Child Succeed In School
Partner with your child’s school
DID YOU KNOW?
Siegrist has both Fall and Spring conferences. Conferences are being held Wednesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 2. If you did not schedule a conference please be proactive and partner with your child(ren’s) teacher for a conference.
Positive message bus signs are in each of the school buses. Some examples of message are “You Matter!” and“ Every Day….Every Grade…Every Student….Matters!” Positive bus signs rotate monthly.
Thank you for ensuring your child(ren) is at school. As you can see below all of the last two months were above the state goal of 90% of the students in attendance 90% of the time.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Continue to build a relationship with your child’s teachers….the entire staff are supporting students to help them achieve success.
Each student’s personal best looks different, don’t compare your child to another, or even children within the same household.
Student learning is a process, be patient and look for progress with your child’s learning. Students thrive on your interest, support and positive feedback.
Positive student-teacher relationships are necessary for student success.
Ask your student about his/her goals and inquire about their progress. Ask, “what can I do to help you achieve your goal?”
PowerSchool Parent Portal
Parents can use Parent Portal (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com/parents/parent_portal) to keep up to date on grades and assignments (for students in grades 6-12), attendance, and we will soon have active links to meal payments and fees.
