GOALS FOR THE WEEK
WEEKLY WORDS OF WISDOM
BE THANKFUL - WHAT MATTERS MOST?
It is easy to love the big things, like a big vacation trip, a new bike or receiving something you have always wanted. However, the simple or little moments are just as meaningful…maybe, even more so. The big stuff tends to happen every once in a while. LITTLE THINGS, happen every day. Sometimes, we are so busy that we don’t see the beauty and wonder in the LITTLE THINGS. Being THANKFUL for the bigger things is great. However, when we notice and are THANKFUL for the little things, it helps us to manage everyday problems and annoyances. We start to see that our lives and the world around us is really quite good. There is much to be THANKFUL for in life. Let’s discover all of those simple and beautiful things this week.
LITTLE THINGS, the simple moments, are incredibly important. There are lots of tiny events that happen and can easily pass by us. It could be someone’s contagious laughter, receiving an extra slice of pizza at lunch, watching a squirrel squirrelling away acorns or even writing your favorite pen. These things are special and are some of the things that matters most in life. Sometimes, we miss seeing these LITTLE THINGS and complain that things are boring. However, when you string these wonderful LITTLE THINGS together day after day, week after week, year after year, we fill with gratitude and our lives become richer and more meaningful. LOVING THE LITTLE THINGS, matters.
FAMILY FOCUS
KNOWING WHAT MATTERS
Taking time to embrace the little things and show our gratitude is often difficult in our busy lives. However, making pauses a priority is time well spent. If we spend all of our time waiting for big things to happen, we neglect the fact that so many little things happen all the time that contribute to our happiness. At school, we will be engaged in thinking about others and how we can show our appreciation to them for the little ways they make our lives better. This week, take some time as a family to discuss the following questions.
- What is it like to experience gratitude?
- What are some THINGS in your life that make you feel THANKFUL? ?
- What might be a big THING for which you are especially THANKFUL?
- How might that big THING be broken down into some LITTLE THINGS or simple things that you value and appreciate? *Think birthday party = friends and family come together to celebrate, cake, games, fun, etc.
- What might it mean to LOVE THE LITTLE THINGS?
- What might be some LITTLE THINGS that you are THANKFUL for today?
- How often do you notice the LITTLE THINGS and share your THANKS for them?
- What is one thing you can do today to LOVE THE LITTLE THINGS around you?
- How might someone’s life change by LOVING THE LITTLE THINGS?
- Why might being THANKFU for the LITTLE THINGS matter?
- How can LOVING THE LITTLE THINGS show ourselves and others how much and why we matter?
