Holicong Middle School

Updates From Mr. Bucher (Week of 10/15)

How Your Attitudes Influence Your Children

As a parent, you have a powerful influence on your children. You do more to shape their view than any other influence in their lives. By communicating with them about the harmful effects of using drugs, you can help deter them from substance abuse. Actions are as important as words. Set a positive example; be a good role model; get involved in your children's lives. Know their friends, and know where they are going and what they are doing. Set clear expectations and enfore them. Talk early and oftern about drugs. Click on the following link - http://guide.straighttalkforparents.org/ for an online brochure sponsored by Drug Free Pennsylvania.

Join CB Text Alerts!

The Central Bucks School District is pleased to announce that we are now able to provide text messaging for emergency school closings, delayed openings, early dismissals, and bus transportation issues via SMS text messaging to mobile phones.

Regulations require that text messages can only be sent to recipients who have subscribed to receive these messages. Therefore, Central Bucks School District will not send an SMS message to any phone that is not in the list of subscribed phone numbers.

If you would like to receive these text messages, please do the following:

  1. Ensure Holicong has your cell phone number on file. Parents that have completed the Census Verification Forms for their children and provided their cell phone numbers will already have those numbers in our database. Parents can also review the cell phone the school has on file by reviewing their demographic information on the Parent Portal under Family>Family Members.

If Holicong does not have your cell phone number on file, request that the number be added through contacting Mrs. McCusker in Holicong's Guidance Office. Wait at least 24 hours before trying to join.

  2. From your cell phone, text the word Join to the number 56360

If our messaging system finds a match for your number in its database, you will receive a confirmation message thanking you for joining School Alerts. At any time, you can unsubscribe by texting Stop to 56360.

Holicong's Literary Magazine - Sevenatenine

Holicong Middle School students are extremely talented. For many years, all English Teachers at Holicong have been encouraging all students to write, write, write. To celebrate our students' creative writing, Mr. Vogelsinger has created a yearly Literary Magazine to acknowledge those students who go above and beyond in their writing endeavors. With the increasing sophistication of technology, Mr. Vogelsinger has started an online Literary Magazine. Click on the following link to take a look!

Photostory in Reading Class!

Ms. Kline, 7th grade reading teacher, recently taught her students how to demonstrate their learning in reading class through the use of a technology application called Photostory. The photostory that can be accessed by visiting the link below is based on the following objectives: Summarize the main events of the novel, Schooled, through the perspective of one of the main characters. This assignment required that students summarize in 60 seconds (but no more than 90 seconds). Ms. Kline got this idea from a website called “60 Second Recap,” in which one woman provides 60 seconds worth of commentary about current, popular books.

Light The Night Fundraising!

Holicong is proud of Julianna S., Emily H., and Barney A. for their participation in the Light The Night event on Saturday, October 13. These three students raised $453 at Holicong by selling Paper Balloons to 7th, 8th, and 9th graders before school and during lunch. By the time the event was all over, their Team raised almost $10,000 to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
