News from the Principal
Hello Everyone!
It feels wonderful to be entering into the month of May with the hope of warm weather returning and staying around. Our entrance way is popping with plants and the beautiful tree in the front of school is beginning to blossom. Be sure to take time to enjoy the early flowers and blossoming trees. They don’t last long. We are in our final week of Forward Exam Testing. Students are doing a wonderful job of working hard to show us what they can do as learners. Thank you for your support during the testing window.
We had a wonderful response to summer school again this year. We are currently in the process of scheduling students, figuring out classrooms and other logistics. We are so excited to be able to offer this opportunity! Congratulations to all of the TRIS students who will be performing in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Musical this weekend. I can’t wait to see them!
Although there are many fun activities and events in May, there is also a lot of learning that takes place each year in May. Teachers will be working with students to keep routines and structures in place to support that final push before summer break. We will enjoy some water games with our H.E.R.O.E.S. groups on May 24th which is always a blast! We have the Spelling Bee, TRIS Singers Concert, Talent Show and Grove Campus Picnic all coming your way. We decided to try the Picnic on the last day of school this year in conjunction with a small Book Fair. Please check out the calendar and join us when you can for the fun events. Thank you for all that you do to support TRIS and your child each day. Please call or email with ideas, concerns or questions at (609)882-3842 or DornB@evansville.k12.wi.us.

Dear TRIS Families,
Throughout the month of April students have been engaged in their Second Step lessons. Students have started and almost completed the emotion management unit!
All of our students are learning or reviewing the three different steps to help manage strong emotions. Step 1: Use a stop signal, students are learning different ways to tell themselves to stop so they can recognize that they need to calm down (ex: hold up, STOP, hang on, wait a minute). Step 2: Name their feeling, students are working on identifying different emotions and the physiological signs they experience with these different strong emotions. Step 3: Calm down, students are focusing on three main calming strategies, deep breathing, counting, and positive self-talk. Other strategies are discussed as well, however the three listed are the main focus due to being able to use these anywhere.
Students have also been learning the importance of taking responsibility for their actions when they have done something wrong, even if this happened due to experiencing a strong emotion. We have discussed that although these different strong emotions are natural and everyone experiences them, it doesn’t excuse poor behavior. Our 4th and 5th grade students have also started to discuss the importance of not jumping to conclusions and avoiding assumptions. Some students have shared their experience when jumping to conclusions and also shared when others have done this to them and how they felt in that situation.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I can be reached by phone at 882-3847 or by email at mcnamaras@evansville.k12.wi.us. Also, please check your email as this will be my primary way of communicating weekly guidance topics and home links. An email will be going out in regards to protective behaviors lessons that will begin taking place in the next couple of weeks, this information is important to look over and discuss with your student. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life!

K-8 PTO Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6 - 10
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10th this year. We would like to encourage you to participate in some of the following days to help recognize the awesome staff at your child's K-8 school. Participation is completely optional, but encouraged. This is always a nice time to foster compassion and appreciation with your child.
Your PTO is also hosting a luncheon for the staff on May 8th and will provide subs, chips, cookies and water for the staff at each of the three K-8 schools.
Thank You!
Your k-8 PTO
Monday 5/6- Words from the Heart Day: Please consider sending in a handmade card or drawing to acknowledge your child's teacher(s). Having your child decorate the main entrance with kind words written in sidewalk chalk or by posting encouraging signs for staff on the main door would also be fun!
Tuesday 5/7- Love from the Oven Day: Please consider sending in homemade baked goods. If this is not your forte, feel free to send in a store bought sweet treat for your child's favorite teacher/staff member!
Wednesday 5/8- Specialty Day: Please consider recognizing your child's Specials Teachers (Gym, Music, Art, Library) and/or Support Staff (Principal, Guidance, Secretary, Health Clerk, Nurse, Educational Assistants, Special Education Teachers/Aides, Janitors, etc.)
Thursday 5/9- Book Dedication Day: Please consider sending a new book for your child's classroom. If a new book is not feasible, a well loved book from home would be great too! Consider writing/drawing a dedication in the front cover of the book and be sure to include your child's signature & year of dedication! Teachers can never have enough books to share with their Class Families!!
Friday 5/10- Fill Your Teacher’s Closet Day: Towards the end of the year, our classrooms tend to run out of common supplies. Please consider sending in one of your child's favorite supplies to help get the class through to the end of the year. Some ideas include: Ziplock bags, paper towels, Clorox wipes, Kleenex, art/craft supplies, dry erase markers, batteries, colored pens, disposable camera, etc.
