Lutetium is one of the rarest metals in the world. The average cost for this iconic metal is $10,000 per Kilogram. Many uses that Lutetium is used for is cancer therapy and because of its long life, 176Lu is used to date the age of meteorites.

Background of the Lutetium Element
Lutetium got its name from the city of Paris, Lutetia. Discovered in 1907 by French scientist Georges Urbain, Austrian mineralogist Baron Carl Auer von Welsbach and American chemist Charles James. Urbain chose the name lutecium for the new element, but in 1949 the spelling was changed to lutetium.
