Spring has sprung!
What is your favorite season? Write down or tell someone at home what your favorite season is and try to give at least 3 reasons why. Use this sentence starter to help you organize your thoughts:
___________ is my favorite season because ________ , ________________and __________________ .
Let us know what your favorite season is by answering the question of the week below!
Get outside and go on a scavenger hunt!
1.) Try to find at least 5 different spring items from the scavenger hunt list below.
2.) Practice describing at least 1 item. Write down or tell someone at home about what you found. Remember, to share the most important parts when describing your item...CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO USE OUR DESCRIBING TOOL. Use this sentence starter to help:
A ____________ is a type of _____________ that ________. It is ____ and has _____ , ____, and _____. It lives ________. I like/ do not like ______ because ________________.

Part 2: Find a special item to "hide" in 5 different places inside or outside. Tell a family member WHERE you hid them. Say "The ___ is ____ the chair"
Part 2: Write down or tell a family member something else about 5 items (e.g. function, location)
Articulation and fluency
Below are word lists for the sounds that students are working on. If you are not sure which list to use let me know! You can use these lists in a couple ways.
1. Choose a few words from the list and while playing a game (i.e., Candylandy, Pop the Pirate, etc.), playing cards for older students (i.e. UNO, War, Go Fish) or doing another turn taking activity (crafts are fun too!) have your child say the word 1-10 times using their target sound.
2. In connection with this week's theme, you can work on articulation on your scavenger hunt. To do this, try and look for items outside that have your sound in them!
3. Try using your word list while playing the Boom Game below. Say each word 5x before taking your turn!
4. Try some of this weeks articulation activities from the April Calendar:
2. Find the sound(s) that you/your child are working on
Preschool Corner
Get outside and go on a scavenger hunt!
You can have so much fun with this spring song! Sing along, act out the different types of walks for each bug, go on a scavenger hunt and try to find one of the signs below! For example, if you see a bird, you can start singing "Spring is here! spring is here! how do you think we know? we just saw a bluebird that is how we know! Do the bird walk!"
You can also use the scavenger hunt picture at the top of the page!
- Model, model, and MODEL- take the pressure of your child to answer! Simply model your thoughts and describe what you see/notice - some examples include: "He's hungry. I think the caterpillar is going to eat a lot of food". "I wonder what the caterpillar is going to eat next... let's see", "mmm.. I love strawberries". "Wow, the caterpillar ate so much! I would have a tummy ache" "I think the caterpillar is going to get MUCH bigger!" You DON'T always have to read the book... you can simply talk about what you see and point to the pictures on the page.
- Ask questions - Ask your child "what did the caterpillar eat?" "What color is the apple?" "where is the caterpillar?" "Oh no! Who ate the apple?" You can help your child answer by pointing to the answer on the page, and starting the sentence for them (e.g. "apple is ____ ). You can also provide a forced choice ("Is the apple red or blue?!") Make connections to yourself and your child ("remember when we saw a caterpillar outside! Should we look for a butterfly today?")
- Finish your sentence - Predictable books with repeating lines are great to work on vocabulary. After the first few pages, try reading "but he was still...." pause, look at your child, and wait for them to say "hungry!" Or, instead of asking "what is this?", model what you see and pause "I see a strawberry, another strawberry, and anotherrrr _______" pause and cue your child to say "strawberry!"
These are all great strategies to use with your child when reading any book :)
