Keeping Up with What is Going on at the Hill!!!
BHMS Students Spend the Month Commemorating Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Students at Bunker Hill Middle School came together to create a video in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
The project, led speech-language specialist Laura Brodowski, seventh grade counselor Jenny Kerfoot, and MD teacher Taryn Homolash, was created to not only share facts about Down Syndrome, but to promote inclusion, kindness, and to remind everyone that at the end of the day, we are more alike than we are different!
Special thanks to the following students for participating in the video (in order of appearance): Delaney Schwartz, Keegan Smith, Brenden Hardison, Ryli Zee, Mia Orihel, Morgan Jardel, Matthew Hanratty, Joseph Lee, Karly Fareri, Joseph Carey, Payton Hopkins, Mickayla Foley-Sawi, Ashley Strate, Arabella Sacco, Emma-Rose Phillips, Isabella Haigh, Gabriella Iannone, Allyson D'Ostilio, Kiley McElroy., Chloe Argentini, Hannah Sirisky, and Evan Javier Arceo
Extra special thanks to Bunker Hill parents, Mrs. Carey and Mrs. Iannone, for sharing their facts and knowledge about Down Syndrome with our students to use in the video, as well as 8th grade student Arabella Sacco, who put the final project together!
Better Instruction Occurs When We Can Interact With Your Child and See Their Face
The week of October 19 will be a pivotal week as we require students in grades 6 through 12 to follow their schedules and attend live sessions with their teachers. Teachers will take attendance at these sessions and enter attendance codes into PowerSchool. The following codes will be used:
Face-to-Face
A (absent)
CP (cohort present)
Remote
DLP (distance learning present)
A (distance learning absent)
VERY, VERY IMPORTANT
It is still critical that students log into Schoology every school day and open each class for each day. The link to enter the live session will be posted in that class. Students that are working remotely will not be required to enter the virtual study hall or lunch.
We believe this new protocol will encourage students to increase their level of engagement daily and participating in a live session on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be easy to verify for attendance purposes. We hope this measure will motivate students to establish a consistent pattern of attendance that will have a positive impact on learning.
