From the Principal's Desk...

December 4, 2020

Dear MHS Students and Families,

It was wonderful to see parents and guardians during virtual conferences this Tuesday and Wednesday. Staff shared feedback with me that the numbers of parents/guardians in attendance went up, and that, on the whole, the booking system worked. Please don't hesitate to reach out to individual teachers to schedule meetings if you were unable to attend.

Next, I want to flag to your attention a few pandemic-related critical needs and requirements at MHS- we thank you so much for your support in attending to the following items:

  • We are required by the state to ensure that every student (notwithstanding legal exemptions) has a flu vaccine. To date, 33% of families have submitted documentation for their child. Please see below for further information.

  • We need substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, and monitors. We have far fewer substitutes available than in past years to support staff coverage when needed. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please direct them to the flyer below.

  • Please complete the following survey to help us to gauge perceptions related to the various learning plans for MHS. A similar survey will be sent out from each school so that you can provide feedback for each school your students attend. Please complete a survey for each student you have at MHS, and we thank you for your participation.

Family Perception Survey

Once again, you're invited to tune in tonight, Dec 4th, and tomorrow, Dec 5th at 6:45 PM to "Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors." Please check out the show website here: DRACULA: A COMEDY OF TERRORS for all of the details. Many thanks to Mrs. Newton and our drama students for coming up with a creative work-around this fall.

Finally, I'd like to express a big "Thank You!" to the parents and guardians who came into MHS and placed Post-It Notes with inspiring quotes on each and every locker throughout the building this Wednesday. Everyone loves it, and we appreciate your support!

Best regards,

Mary Watkins

Flu Vaccination Requirement

The Mansfield Public Schools adhere to Massachusetts Regulations, 105 CMR 200.000 & 220.000 which require a physical examination and up-to-date Immunizations prior to school entry.

Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, influenza vaccine will be required for all students. All students must receive seasonal influenza (Flu) vaccine by December 31, 2020.

Please send confirmation of your child’s flu vaccination to your school health office. Health

Office contact information can be found here.

Thank you for your adherence to this regulation. Influenza vaccine is always important to receive in order to reduce the risk of getting sick with influenza, reduce the severity of disease if one does get sick (including the risk of hospitalization) due to influenza, as well as preventing the spread of influenza to others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza vaccine is especially critical to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness on the population, protect vulnerable populations from severe illness, and decrease the overall burden on the healthcare system. link for more information
