Stress and Anxiety
What is it? How to deal with it?
Stress is the reaction of the body and mind to every challenges and demands
- Eustress: This is the good stress. It motivates you to give your best effort. Body gives off extra energy
- Negative Stress: This is the bad stress, like losing sleep after an argument
Alarm Response is when the body and the mind are on high alert (fight or flight). Resistance is when body adapts to "rush".
Fight is ability to resist a physical challenge or attack may be enhanced. Flight is when someone may be able to run faster and farther than normal to escape danger
Two main blood systems - both involuntary
- Nervous System
- Endocrine System - adrenal glands
Healthy ways to handle stress
- Go for a walk.
- Call a good friend.
- Write
- Take a long bath.
- Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea
- Curl up with a good book.
- Listen to music.
Anxiety is the condition of feeling uneasy or worried about what may happen.
Symptoms of anxiety are, feeling of fear or dread, perspiration, restlessness, or muscle tension, rapid heart rate, lightheadedness, or short of breath.
S.T.O.P
Take: a few breaths, and get your awareness to each inhalation and exhalation.
Observe: how your body's feeling in the moment , like, warmth or coolness. Become aware of your emotions and your thoughts.
Perceive: sounds in the room, listening to them come and go.

- Sleep more than is necessary
