Parent Teacher Partnership - Needs your help for International Festival - January 30th
We need parents or community members throughout the day to help support a table for this educational event. Our table will be in the High School Gym. We are also looking for packaged food items. You do not need to be a member of the parent teacher partnership to help out.
If interested in volunteering or donating food items , please contact Suzy Marquis at suzy.marquis@bcshurricanes.org
You may ask... What is the International Festival?
DETAILS:
This is the fourth year that our high school will celebrate our ethnic and cultural diversity by way of a day long international festival.
The 2019 Brooklyn City Schools International Festival will be held on January 30th. This is a Professional Development Day for our faculty and a late start day for our students. For the most part, the day long festivities for the high school will mirror the "traveling from station to station" format of last year's event but with a much shorter duration of time at each station and an increased number of stations. In the lower school, the sixth and seventh grades will participate with an abbreviated/modified approach to the celebration that will be communicated in the days ahead by the faculty members participating on the planning team.
Please contact Suzy Marquis if you are able to volunteer or help out, by emailing her at suzy.marquis@bcshurricanes.org

Counseling Corner
While one may feel like slowing down in the doldrums of winter, we school counselors are are in full swing when it comes to working with our students...
K-3 students continue to work weekly with Mrs. Smith in weekly guidance lessons in which we have been focusing a lot on having empathy for each other, showing compassion and calming down strong feelings. In addition, another round of lunch bunch groups are getting ready to be launched as we take another opportunity to really practice those skills.
Students in 4-7 will be working with Mrs. Bir focusing on "Friendships and Clicks" during their monthly guidance lessons. In addition, She will be kicking off her ROX Groups (Ruling Our Own Experiences) The focus of this group is to really empower our young ladies to and be all they can be!
We encourage you to ask your children questions like...
- Can you teach me some of your calm down strategies?
- How did you show compassion and empathy today? Who else did you see showing empathy and compassion? How did it make you feel?
- What does it mean to be assertive?
